Have you ever had anything strange happen in your life that led to something great happening? When I was about 18, a very good friend of mine joined the U.S. Navy...We had been friends for quite some years and when he left we continued to keep in touch. About three months later, I got a letter from a complete stranger huh.gif ....This guy was stationed on the same ship as my friend, and decided to write me a few lines...Said he was friends with (Hank) and thought he would say hello...I wasn't too sure if I should answer him, but my datiing life was on hold rolleyes.gif , and I figured this would pass the time for me...Now, our letters continued, just funny with him telling me about the ports they were in, the tatoos he got, etc...and I was dating again, so told him about my daily life..We sent pictures to each other, so there would be a face behind the letters...This went on for about a year, and one night I got a phone call and it was from this guy...Well writing words, and saying them are two different things, but the call went well and he asked me if we could meet...I lived in Union City, he was from Brooklyn, just the Hudson River between us wink2.gif ..Now he was stationed in Norfolk, Va. and his ship was in and would be home on Friday...Could we meet outside the Port of Authority...(now mind you, it was never once mentioned in our letters that we were even remotely interested in meeting with each other)...Figured, what the hell, it was a free dinner, drinks original.gif We had a real good time, felt like we knew each other forever, and here's the kick...When he took me home he said he wasn't going to call me anymore, and I said good.... laugh.gif Anyway, he did wind up calling and a year after his discharge we got married and have been together since...Now the greatness was that my children were born, and my grandchildren followed...When I think back, I just find it strange that out of whole shipload of guys, my husband was the one to meet my friend, and get in touch with me...The strangest part was when he said he wasn't going to call anymore...I thought I was a hot date..... w00t.gif

Thanks justejust...I'm sure at some point in your life something strange or great has happened that will pop up in your head...When my husband made the first phone call it was shortly before Easter, so I think that jogged my mind original.gif

Wow goalie that is such a great story! As i was reading it i started to wonder if your friend (Hank) was playing match maker without you knowing it! Did you ever ask him if he had thought, hey this guy on my ship and my friend back home would make a great couple? I'll bet there was something like that going on in his head when he told your now hubby about you, and gave him your address so he could write to you! yes.gif As for myself the way i met my hubby isn't really strange, but i did hate him more than any guy i'd ever known! And if anyone would have said we'de get married and stay that way i would have cracked up laughing! But here we are, and like you i couldn't imagine my life without him! I just got up so i can't think of anything else right now, but if i do i'll be back! Great thread though! thumbsup.gif And i can't wait to read some more resposes!

I don't think Hank was playing matchmaker, he knew I was dating at the time, but who knows...He did write and ask me if I liked the future hubby...I said no, and said he didn't like me either grin2.gif Hank, couldn't understand it, he thought I was hot too...... w00t.gif I need a cup of coffee... hmm.gif

I love the story! I always ask people how they got together, some of the stories are so romantic. It's funny how some people who aren't struck by lightning when they first see each other are the ones who stay together.
