Ok, it just got dark out. I had just now gotten home and I step out of the car and on my way walking to the house, I look up in the sky. I don't know why, I just did. Just to look at the night sky I guess. And I saw all these stars right? And there was one particularly brighter "star". I thought it was the North star, or whatever it's called. The star that's usually brightest in the sky. But then I noticed it wasn't that star, it was moving. At first I thought it was a plane, but then I noticed the light on it looked alot different than a plane. Planes have those blinking red or blue lights, but this one was just one bright light and no blinking light or anything. Just one plain white light. And there was also a plane that looked even further up at the same time I was seeing this, and even though it was higher up in the sky, I could STILL see the blinking lights on it. Yet still didn't see no blinking lights on the strange thing I saw. Like I said, there was also a plane in the sky at the same time so I could easily notice the difference in the two objects. It was just one single bright light, that appeared about the size as a big, bright star in the sky. And I know it wasn't a shooting star. I just know. And also, I live in Texas, where there have been a few UFO reports recently, as yall may know. So I really don't think it was a plane. Anything else it could've been? Thanks for your input.

Well no, I live in Amarillo, Tx. If you don't know where that is, here's a map of it:

I circled Amarillo, as well as Stephenville.

Sounds just like a satellite.

Hi Shadow09,

The object you described sounds just like a satellite. Knowing that you live in Amarillo, TX, I looked up your location at Heavens-Above.com to find out what satellites you might have seen tonight. Here are the results:

I see you made your first post at 9:08 pm. If you posted just a few minutes after seeing the object, you probably saw the International Space Station (ISS) passing by. It was just about directly overhead at 8:58 pm. Just a few minutes earlier, though, the European Space Agency's Automated Transer Vehicle (ATV), Jules Verne, passed by. It was high in the sky over Amarillo at 8:54 pm as it gradually closes in on the space station to deliver supplies.

Either one of these vehicles would have looked like a very bright star moving across the sky about as fast as an airplane, but without the blinking lights. So, yeah, you probably saw a spaceship tonight -- one of ours! Pretty cool. thumbsup.gif

Thanks. I just knew it wasn't a plane so it got me to wondering. original.gif

You're welcome! Are those times about right? If you saw the object just a bit before 9:00, than I'd be pretty sure you saw either the space station or the ATV. If it was at some other time, then it would have been something else. Probably still a satellite, though.

Great! Thanks for posting your location and the time. That made it really easy to track down the answer.
