That's the easy answer, it would be hard to mimic that type of motion unless you were perhaps a professional. Things like that would normally be done with CGI anyway. So lets think for a moment this wasn't in a tank and it wasn't someone in a suit. It could very well be a manatee, which is commonly mistaken for a Mermaid. Their arms have often been mistaken for human arms especially in the way they have carried their young. That would be the most logical explanation if this wasn't done in a tank. I'm also not going to say Mermaids don't exist, never have, never will. In all honesty if anyone in this world thinks we have found every species on the planet, simple and abstract you need to get out of your box and learn. So is it probable? No. Is it possible? Yes. Looking through evolution a bit it seems logical that something like that can happen.

Now if there were Mermaids I feel that they would look nothing like we picture them. They may be human like but to an extent. First off they would have to have a means of surviving in the wild of the ocean which is very harsh. I can't picture a human like creature being able to thrive and flourish in the ocean, let alone survive and have a means of obtaining food. They would probably have jagged and predator like teeth to kill and eat their pray. So some of the stories of old where they are evil would be the most probable if there were ever Mermaids, they would simply be a predator like a shark. Also one would think a humanoid like creature in the ocean would have to live in the Euphotic zone, it is doubtful that one could leave in deeper waters due to the pressure and lack of sunlight. Which if that was the case we would have most likely discovered them. But all and all we haven't discovered everything and anything is truly possible when it comes to mother nature. However, through logic and science this is very unlikely at the current moment. Maybe in the past, maybe in the future who knows. However as proof that we don't know nearly as much as we think we do, we have NEVER truly scene how a Great White Shark reproduces. We have also never truly seen a baby and how it will act in the wild. And yes there was a Great White Shark in captivity but it did not last very long. It was sensitive to the magnetic field behind the tank and kept ramming itself into the edges. They don't do well in captivity and if you think it would be simply to get two of them to mate quickly in one...you're mistaken. Just like us...they generally do not want to put on that kind of show with everyone watching and them being all confused. Anyway, that's my take on this whole matter.

Neat video. Too hard to tell what it is though. From the best zoomed-in look I could get the "arms" and "hands" really don't appear to be human.

I think it's footage of a real creature, but not a mermaid.

Well then let me say it. ''Mermaids don't exist''. It's an early scene from the film 'Splash' with Daryl Hannah. But this clip is much more convincing. :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv-ehuUoQPk...feature=related I mean how can a human recreate that movement without professional training.

As someone else has stated it's from Splash. I love that film!

Notice how the author has compiled the youtube flash movie so that you can't pause, rewind, or frame-by-frame inspect it ?

Oh, that's not fake, it was an actual Mermaid: A female swimmer and actress performing live to entertain people. I'm pretty sure I've seen them on TV, I think it was also featured in Simple Life season 3 where Paris Hilton cuzz everyone around (well, that's normal..for her, I guess).

Dunno if i believe mermaids are real or not, but its a cool video.

I do love cross stitching fantasy creatures such as mermaids (sorry to those who think they are real its just that when you buy mermaid charts they usually come under fantasy cross stitch by catagory - in fact i just got a Fantasy Cross Stitch book by Lesley teare that has a mermaid design on the front cover. It has some great charts in it (mermaids, dragons, fairies etc), its fabulous!) and i am also very intrigued by marine biology and cryptozology, so i liked it.

Whether it was a real mermaid? Ive noooooooooooooooooooooo idea.

Mermaids. Fish bottom half, female human top half? How do they have babies?

Silly! Females excrete unfertilized eggs and the males deposit their milt onto the eggs.

Some fish are livebearers. Obviously fish (which have fishy lower halves) have holes of various types down there.
