Hey everyone,

I have had a very surreal morning, and i decided i would share it all with you!

This morning started off very normally, im at university at the moment and decided to tag along with my boyfriend to the library for no particular reason. I was there and suddenly remembered a book i had meant to take out about 4 months ago. I had randomly found it as i was just browsing, what drew my attention to it was the fact that it was called "Mind Power" and is all about topics such as astral projection, telepathy etc, which i am really interested in. However...the author also shares the same surname as me. (I wont say the surname for obvious reasons!)

I had completely forgotten about this book until today so i decided to search it out. I eventually found it, and as i opened it i was startled to find a very interesting object inside...

In november my nan, who i was very close too, passed away. She became ill the same day i went to university for the first time, and during that term she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and unfortunately passed away about 2 months later. I was distraught being away whilst she was so ill, and was very close to dropping out. We used to talk about the paranormal a lot, or anything about ghosts or psychics. When she was very ill she had told my mum that she would leave a sign, and i found out that it would be a feather, in a very unusual place. I had nearly given up hope of ever recieving one, and last night i had asked "her" out loud if she could possibly send it soon.

Im sure you can guess the next bit! Today inside that book, i found a beautiful feather. Half of it is grey and the other half has a white tip, black stripe and is a turquiosey colour.

Now, usually i would take it as a big coincidence! But it seems very strange that it would be in a book of that nature....and with an author of my nans surname and mine too. Oh and the last time the book was taken out was the 23rd of February 2003!

Very odd.

I called my mum and she nearly had a heart attack! lololol!

What does everyone think of it? major coincidence or something else?

Thanks guys original.gif

Wow, what an interesting story....Who knows for sure, it could be a coincidence but if I were you I would see it as a sign from your beloved nan......In this day and age where our lives are so structured and predictable, it's lovely to believe that your nan's love for you transcends above everything else, even her death......Good for you...... thumbsup.gif

It could be coincidence, but what are the odds? I would imagine that they must be pretty unlikely. I would take it as a sign from your grandmother and treasure the feather always.
gabolai
I check out books from the Library by the dozens, and have for years, and I have never found a feather.

And on the very day after you asked for it. . .

I think she wants you to know everything is alright.

Yes I agree, I don't think it is a coincidence at all, more likely that it's a sign saying everything is well with her.

Incredible story, Artemis...brought tears to my eyes. Of course, this could be coincidence, but I feel that it was the sign you had been asking for from her. I think that your nan picked this particular book having the surname's of you both to let you know that is really was her that left it there.

That's a very interesting story. If you still have the feather could you give us a picture of it. Or at least if you can remember it perhaps you can try and figure out where it's from (was it a real feather? can you figure out what animal it came from?)

I am just curious and it's always good to look for more evidence. It sounds like a fairly unusual feather and not one you would find near a university so it sounds less coincidental. Either way though thank you for sharing the story.

The current theory I am now running on is that the feather was a parakeet feather. Although these birds are usually native to Australia they are common pets the world wide. However, unless you live in Australia I would assume it would be rare to find a feather in a book that hadn't been checked out in 4+ years.

I have not found any particular connection with parakeets and the paranormal there are a couple of cases that connect them (although this may be coincidental with the pure number of ghost sightings there are out there).

Finally I don't know if you believe in magical properties of natural objects or not, but I found this about feather colors and magical properties:

White- Purification, spirituality, hope, protection, peace, blessings of the Moon, balance, finding peace, absorbing energy

Grey- Peace, neutrality, being invisible, doubting, neutrality, static

Blue- Psychic awareness, peace, health, connection with spirits, protection, believe, faith, knowledge, communication

Not proof of an afterlife and not a massive coincidence.

A small coincidence. There have been FAR bigger ones before, believe me.

Wow, amazing story.
I believe in the afterlife 100%. Especially after a friend of mine passed away and on the same night we held a memorial service for him I had a dream. In that dream he was there and told me that he will be ok and not to worry. When I woke up I had the strangest sensation over my body and it slowly drained from me, I have never felt it before and could never find the right words to describe it. As this happened there was this strange blackness in front of my my eyes that quickly disappeared.
I called out my friends name while this feeling washed over me and then the feeling disappeared, leaving me with a cold sensation and all the hairs on my body were standing on end. Since then I have heard a few stories from friends who said a similar thing happed to them that day too.
i would say this is a sign from your grandmother. Cherish that feather and hold it close to your heart original.gif

I don't think this was a coincidence...Sounds like your grandmother was telling you she was happy and fine...Never forget a memory like the one you have... original.gif

I enjoyed reading this account very much. I'm very cynical of lots on this board, but severe coincidences like this one are intriguing to me. I can't/won't even begin to try to explain them away. Enjoy this message, Artemis. Coincidence or not, I believe it means something.

I hate when these kinda things happen where its almost 90% sure this was something special just for you but the other 10% u just dont know maybe it was just a coinsindnce

Also I just wanted to point out that there are other possibilities beyond afterlife and coincidence. It could also mean that the person had psychic abilities and the event or could be proof of a powerful being watching over you. It could a guardian angel or a demon messing with you. I have no idea what is really out there and draw no conclusions based what I found out on this. However, when looking over the information you have you should try and keep and open mind to all possibilities.

Just my final say on the subject. I haven't found any other birds it could be from and without more information on the feather I doubt I could find one. Nor have I found any more substantial connections between the paranormal and parakeets. Good luck looking for your truth and I hope, as I am sure your grandmother would, that you find some form of piece regardless of what you find.

Such an interesting sign.. if you ask me, it's too exact. original.gif

I bet it was nice to receive it.

12 years working in academic libraries, plus eight years browsing them as a student-- so that's 20 years in academic libraries, and I have never once found a feather inside a book.

This particular sign was promised, and you asked for it the night before, and it immediately appeared in a particularly meaningful context. It has every appearance of intelligent action and none of the earmarks of dumb luck.

A very nice story, which, I am sure gives you and your family a great deal of personal comfort. sadly though for the rest of us, unless you can recreate these type of events under clinical trials it does not form any proof of an afterlife. Nice coincidence though ... I wish it had happened to me

Sorry, was that for me? I didn't understand.
ArtemisArcheress
Hello again everyone,

Thankyou all for your lovely posts! Didnt know if my story would even get a response!

Ive attached a picture of the feather. After a bit of research i found out its actually a feather of a common mallard duck! But strangely enough it still holds special significance to me, but nothing very outstanding. When i realised the feather belonged to this duck, i had such a recollection of memories of me and my nan, that i had completely forgotten about! As a child my favourite thing to do at my nans house was to take a trip to the local duck pond, where i would spend most of the time eating the bread more than the ducks did. I can recall so many details of those times, that i couldnt before. So im planning to take a trip down there and remember the happy times.

For such a common animal, i cant believe how beautiful this feather is, the photo just doesnt do it justice! i'd like to frame it and cherise it, like so many of you have suggested i should do!

Although i know its definitely not proof of the afterlife, to me its that little bit more evidence to suggest that something is going on that we cant explain yet! Maybe this will be the first sign of many to come for me...i can only ask and hope! (and let you all know! tongue.gif )I still think i may of looked like a bit of a loon running around the library, clutching a feather and a book, nearly bouncing off the walls with excitement and shock!

Oh and ive tried reading the book, but its pretty heavy stuff! Ive not read an academic book on the paranormal before. What interests me more so about the nature of the book, is that according to a fair few mediums ive seen, apparently i have "innate psychic ability". One of those was none other than good ol' Derek Acorah! (i reserve judgment on his abilities...he knew faaaaar too much about me for my liking!) My nan always believed i was, so maybe its a sign? Not sure myself, but im sure id figure it out if my nan materialised in front of me....*hint hint Nan!*

Im glad you enjoyed reading my little experience, if any other interesting ones occur im sure ill let you all know!
