thers been a weired sound that i keep hering it really high pitchet the only way to discribe is that it sounds like A robot sereaming i guess an i know am not carzy because my friends family here it to what do you think it is
Tom2943
You're going to need to be a bit more specific - where do you hear the noise?

EDIT:
Like a robot screaming? Right, I don't know what a robot screaming sounds like. You mean a very high pitched, metallic ringing? Like an old-fashioned kettle? Check the pipes if that's the case.
mr.5
when i'am in my house or on my street
Tom2943
Could you record it, please? I mean, if you keep hearing it, as do people around you, this shouldn't be a problem - right?
mr.5
iv trid that record it do's not work
Tom2943
So you're telling me you can hear the sound, everyone around you can hear the sound, but it can't be recorded? If this has been going on for a while, why haven't people in your street complained?
mr.5
because it seems like they only here it when ther around me for some reason

do you listen to loud music or work in a noisy environment, are you on medication ? ........ it sounds to me like you may be experiencing tinnitus.

Tinnitus is a symptom associated with many forms of hearing loss. It can also be a symptom of other health problems. According to estimates by the American Tinnitus Association, at least 12 million Americans have tinnitus. Of these, at least 1 million experience it so severely that it interferes with their daily activities. People with severe cases of tinnitus may find it difficult to hear, work, or even sleep.

Gonna have to go with bigwedgie on this one, too. My boyfriend, who is a musician, has tinnitus from years of playing loud music. The noise you describe sounds a lot like what he describes. However, if your friends and family are hearing it, too... huh.gif I dunno. Maybe try to record it and put it on here and see if we can hear it.

Reminds me...may be something similar but...

Does anyone remember a website a few years ago which had a cell phone ringer you could listen to and which claimed you could only hear the ring if you were like under 25 or 30 years old and anyone older could not hear the ring? Anybody?
mr.5
but i don't listen to loud to music or work in a noisy environment
bigwedgie
Midnight angel you make a great point , dont recall the website but there is a noise device that is played into certain areas that only "younger people" can hear, its called a mosquito ultrasonic device and its played in areas where they are trying to discourage people to meet like shopping centres or high streets at night, now if you live close by or even if a neighbour has installed one of these devices to stop kids hanging around or playing football outside his property then you could be hearing the noise when others simply can't.

is it only in a certain area? ............ either way get it checked out because tinnitus can indicate some serious illnesses which I am sure you wont have but eitherway you need to get checked.

I'm not 100% sure that tinnitus is caused only by exposure to loud noises. Maybe someone else here knows the answer.

However, this is why I was asking about that cell phone ringer that could only be heard by younger people. Kind of intriguing that there are some noises that only younger ears can hear. Maybe what you are hearing only people who are younger can hear. Just wondering if it may be the same sort of thing. Which is why someone asked why others in the neighborhood aren't complaining...maybe they simply can't hear what you are hearing. I don't know, just a theory - and a big stretch at that, but...

Here is the story about the ring tone only young ears can hear:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/06/12/...in1701359.shtml

Here is the audio:

http://audio.cbsnews.com/2006/06/12/audio1701350.mp3

http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/audio/mosquito_sound.mp3

They claim most adults, age 25 and older cannot hear it.

Does it sound anything like this? I am assuming you are young. Maybe there is some high frequency pitch somewhere in your neighborhood.

And wow, bigwedgie, I did not know that people were using this noise to keep kids from hanging around places.

If you have the recording, post it up.

Tinnitus causes

1 exposure to prolonged loud noise

2 drugs (prescription) medication can cause it

3 underlying medical cause including tumours

its probably someone using a band saw or other power tool.

I know of a house that has this in place... its actually quite annoying. I can still hear it as an adult, and my adult friends can hear it too, even as you drive by in a car (with the windows down of course). I don't know how people could live there. I would complain as a neighbor...
