DTV is claiming that regular television will be gone in a year or two years. Is this true? I mean not many people can afford setaillte or digital t.v. My mom has Directv & my dad has Comcast. I keep seeing the commerical & I keep wondering if their "claim" is true.
I'm just curious.

I believe that Feb.2009 is when all broadcast television will no longer be analog. So yes. It's true. They will be digital. Supposedly you can purchase a digital to analog converter so you can still use your old analog set.

Analogue definitely won't be here for long. Digital recievers will continue to drop in price, by the time the switch over is complete you won't need to worry about that.

If you already have comcast then you don't need to do anything.

In the beginning of this year, Major Department Stores has started to go DIGITAL and will no longer be selling ANALOG television sets by the end of this year.
Soon your old t.v. will need an adapter to change the digital into analog, when all the Networks broadcast in DIGITAL only.

It will only affect those who receive their television broadcasts through the air. ( an antenna )
It does suck in a way considering houses are full of analog televisions which soon become nothing more than boat anchors.
I think the change is being made to free up band-width for other purposes. Analog broadcasts take up a large chunk of bandwidth. ( Frequency )

I thought you have to by a HD compatible T.V. or a converter, if you dont have one, regardless of having an antenna, or cable.

Not at all, you just need to buy a receiver and hook that up to your tv, same as you do with a DVD player or game console or anything else. That's what I've done.

They shut down the analog TV here in Sweden between '05 and '07. It's all gone now.
