NEWSFLASH: DRAGONS DONT EXIST!

the only thing resembling a dragon is the prehistoric pteradon or pteradactyl and other winged dinosaurs. Dragons as they are portrayed today are a thing of myth just like the minotaur, medusa etc. The guy starting the post did not see a dragon he only saw what his active imagination led him to believe was a dragon. When will you guys start excercising some common sense and realise that just like leprecauns dragons are a fable at best? There is absolutley no evidence whatsoever that suggests that dragons existed or do exist. And by that i mean scientific evidence not the ramblings of a mad man.

Of course there is no hard, repeatable, scientific evidence, Captain, nor had anyone stated that there is any. Eyewitness accounts cannot add up to scientific evidence, however many there may be.

Why must you presuppose madness for such a sighting, however? Even if you remain convinced that a sighting is false, a mistaken impression seems more likely that immediatly assuming madness.

The theory that dinosaur fossils are responsible for the dragon legends is a good one, but I do not believe it is entirely adequate by itself.

As for the speculative nature of such discussions, that naturally derives from the subject matter, as there is no hard science on this subject.

On subject of what the myths were, what people actually believed, and how such myths were communicated, evidence can be brought to the table and discussed in a orderly fashion.

I think mythology built around our fear of snakes and in china the alligators played a part combined with stories travelling through trade would have had a role too.

Look, I can now safely say that I believe the creature I spotted many months ago, was in fact, a large bird. During that moment I was scared and tense, my dog was barking, I was feeling stressed out, and I could not see very well through the trees. I think what happened was similar to when someone is walking or driving down the street, and they see a glimpse of a person. They suddenly realize that they think that the person was someone they knew, and because they were not able to see them clearly, the memory and image of that person is slightly confused and blurry, but as they think more and more about it, that blurry image becomes more and more like the person that they thought they were looking at. I thought I saw Bill Gates at the mall the other day, but does that mean that I saw him? No. I just saw a glimpse of a person that reminded me a bit of him, so my brain inserted his image into the man's image, combining them into something that looked a bit like Bill Gates.

Case Closed. There isn't any reason why my dead topic should resurrect and turn into a dragon debate.

As the original sighting seems to have now been solved and given the bickering over the last couple of pages I can't see much justification for keeping this thread open.

Closed.
