How do I add live links to posts? If I click on Insert Link, does that become a live link you can just click on to go to? Or do I have to do something else? Is that what BB Code is for?
Thanks for any help. original.gif

Yes, if you hit 'insert link' and enter the url address it will produce a live link you just have to click on. Another method would be to enter the information thusly;
CODE
[url=http://www.yourlink.com]CLICK HERE TO GO TO SITE[/url]

which would 'hide' the original address and the clickable link would be the text you provide.

It looks like goalienan already asked about this, and Insert Link is the answer. But I do have another question, how do you get the balloons and confetti and stuff that I see in some birthday greetings, does it come from an outside site or program or what? It's pretty neat and I'd really like to know how it's done. Can someone point me in the right direction, please, and thanks. rolleyes.gif I know,I'm such a noob with this stuff cause I'm mostly a gamer, but my better half and I am curious about this, and do appreciate the help given on this most excellent forum.

I would imagine these are external animated graphics files Rodserling (typicaly GIF files).
There are two ways to insert these into you post:
1) direct link
If the image you want is already on the internet (e.g. on a website) then you can "link" to it with the [img] command. Click on the "Insert image" button on the editing toolbar, and enter the location of the image (for exampe, http://www.myimages.com/image.gif).

2) Attachment
If the picture is on your hard disk, then you have an option lower down in the editing screen to "Attach" a file. Use the 'browse' button to locate the file, then select 'upload'. Once uploaded, you are then given the option to insert it into your post.

Please watch out for copyright when you insert pictures though original.gif

And thankyou,ships-cat,man you guys are fast at replying,I guess that's just another reason this is such great, informative, and helpful site.

Try not to 'hot link' any images you might find, most sites disable your ability to link their images because you are effectively 'stealing' their bandwidth when you do. Even worse, some places will replace what appears to be an innocent image with a nasty alternative to discourage image theft. They can be quite disturbing and you'd be completely unaware of its change because your cashe will still show the original image. Every one else will see its nasty counter part. ohmy.gif You'd be better served downloading the image you like to your hard drive and then upload it as an attachment to your post, that way you're assured of displaying the correct image. thumbsup.gif

so, you have to put that code in manually, there's no other way?

It's not as bad as it looks. Just write
CODE
[url=
Then right after the = sign (no space) copy and paste the web address you want to put in. Then directly after the address you c&p there (no space again) just place a ] bracket

Then directly after that, you simply type in yourself want you want the clickable link to be read as in your post.

Directly after the last letter of what you type in, you then type [/url] and there ya go tongue.gif

Anyways, hope that made sense to you, but maybe you understood what magikman wrote anyway.

Basically though, it isn't that much typing if you just use copy and paste for the web address. You can use it for the part afterwards too if you have something from the page that you can copy and paste that matches what you want the clickable link to read as.

Or you can be lazy, click insert link, more than likely you will have to scroll to the top to allow the scripted window, (just right click and temporarily allow scripted files) just insert the web address, type what you want it to say...."eat at noahs" and walaah.

However, only allow scripted access from sites you trust like UM. Don't go to some porn site where it asks you to install active X or microsoft components and right click and install......that is um....yea lets not do that.

Just hit up some html tutorials or something and they give you basics.
