It seems that I've recently been having more and more dreams the consist of water harming people I love, scaring me out of my wits, or just seeming threatening. Here's some of the dreams I've had including this fear of water:
1. My family is on the beach and a large wave that's dark with seaweed, sand, etc. (possible tsunami?) occurs and the dream ends with me running from the wave after it has engulfed everyone else.
2. I'm on some sort of ship thing with my aunt (yes I'm wonderful at articulation) and I end up on the deck/roof and see a huge purplish wave on the other side of the mountains. I end up running around and trying to tell everyone to leave the ship, but I'm too late and the wave nearly destroys the boat, but I don't get hurt.
3. All I can remember of this dream is my close family and some of my older relatives sitting in red movie-theater style chairs and having a crystal clear wave arch over the top of us. This one wasn't very scary, per say, but it still goes with the whole wave theme.
4. I'm at a castle looking for my friend during a fancy party when I run into her boyfriend who is a werewolf in this dream. I ask him where she is and he's rather rude to me, so I walk off rather ticked. I can't find her so I drive back to wherever I came from, and I drive past a cliff with medium sized waves smashing against it's side. It's very high up, and the water is dark and stormy, and I feel absolutely terrified.

There's other dreams that include large waves and the like, but I've noticed in this last year it's become quite a common theme for my dreams and I always wake up terrified. Once while I was in Hawaii for my cousin's wedding, I had a dream about a tsunami (details are fuzzy on this one) and the next morning we had a tsunami warning because of an earthquake that happened not too far away. I know water can symbolize spirituality, but I'd like to know what this might mean!

I must say it is interesting how dreams work! They are so hard to understand, but yet amazing.

I will have to say that I used to have premonition dreams when I was young. As foreboding
as this might seem, it seems as though you may be having dreams of something that may
come to pass. It also might not be that simple.

Are you in anyway afraid of water? As this may have something to do with it. But, this is just
from my perspective on your situation.

Anyway, best of luck to you Lady Otterwynnd.

Tom

Yes, I was quite shocked that there was an actual tsunami warning after I had that dream! I'll often have little, tiny, short dreams about school or something that often come true. I'm not afraid of water though and I never have been. I can swim really well, and I've never nearly drowned or anything like that. In real life I don't find water frightening at all, just in these dreams.

foresight? if it has happened before then could you see if your famalys near water and warn em, or purhaps they could be planning a trip somewhere.

it might not just be in the immediate future, maybe its just an eye opener

whish i could help more, best of luck

I often feel that dreams can often feed off of another persons thoughts and emotions.

We don't live by the water, and we're not going to the beach anytime soon. I can usually tell that these are dreams though, because there's usually something unrealistic that happens in them. Like, tsunami aren't usually large walls of water like they were in my dreams (they don't get past 50 ft, very often), they're usually just waves that don't stop. But it's a good theory.

since you asked , my intuition says it's symbolic and not literal at all . i don't think a wave is going to sweep you away , rather perhaps i would want to know "what does the wave represent?"
dream interpritation is not my forte , i hope you find someone wise in this .

Yes, I think that the dream represents something rather than literally means something.

I found this interesting!

Water frequently shows up in dreams and can have many different meanings depending on its form, clarity, etc. Typically, water symbolizes emotions, intuition, and that which is 'below the surface'--the unconscious.

Tsunami
In waking life tsunamis occur when an earthquake or some other violent action takes place thereby lifting the sea up which in turn creates a gigantic wave that causes much devastation when it comes ashore. In dream life, a tsunami may symbolize the same feeling--a feeling of being overwhelmed by a huge, powerful force beyond your control. Dreaming of a tsunami can be a sign that you are feeling emotionally overwhelmed or emotional upheaval. Look at your life and see if there is a situation that feels overpowering.

Wow, that's interesting! I have been having some relationship issues this last year, so that may explain why I've been dreaming of tsunami so often! Thanks MB!

It does seem to make sense I suppose. I used to feel like I was trapped in life and couldn't get anywhere
when I was younger. I would always dream of flying like a bird, I suppose the dreams were symbolizing
freedom from my reality.

Anyway, you are very welcome.

Definitely interesting. It's so fascinating that dreams can be so accurate.

I know its off topic, but on the subject of dreams, do you think there's any way to try and get a character to appear in your dreams? I've had a dream with this guy in, and i want him to come in a dream, but i don't know how!

P.S. Wow your dreams are scary! I agree with Tom!

Yes, there is a method called lucid dreaming, wherein you learn how to control what you dream about. And yes, they are scary, but they have meaning so it's okay.
Here are some links for lucid dreaming:

I don't know that I agree that dreams have meaning. At least, no more meaning than anything else that happens in our brains.

For instance, I can remember a lot of my dreams every night. Last night, I had a dream where I was in a bar and I took some psychadelic mushrooms and sat down to watch a vhs of Ghostbusters at the bar, but instead I suddenly began hallucinating and I was suddenly in an office building with an asian business man being chased by all sorts of people, and we ran down the fire escape and jumped in my car in the parking lot. We drove away as fast as we could, but the streets turned into the midway of a giant amusement park and we got out and I said that everything was cool. Suddenly I woke up from the hallucination and I was back at the bar and this cute girl was there and she told me I had a bald spot and I got freaked out but then she told me that she shaved it into my head while I was passed out so it was no big deal. I ordered a beer and we laughed and then I woke up for real.

If you're going to tell me that I'm supposed to pull some significant message from that, I'm going to say you're full of it.

As far as I know, when we dream, the brain is moving storage from short term memory into long term memory. Whilst it's doing this, other imagery associated with the storage region is triggered. As our brains tend to store things in the same way, we produce common dream imagery, the interpretation of which, naturally, seems relevant to our current situation.

And, in every other kind of creative thinking, what do you suppose happens then original.gif ?

Dear Lady - I will take a stab at replying publicly about dreams again. My first 'gift' now over 40 years. ONE - however mixed up crazy unintelligible... beyond the primary purpose of REM to resolve subconciously problems and issues - NOTE that your 'Technicolor' experience however odd you vividly retained to the extent of seeking help and posting...

This stands out - most 'normal' REM dreams we do not have the level of total recall. I'd hazard I'm way out grandma maybe here. But. I never wrote them down - I just lived more of me life dreaming than awake. I just paid attention, enjoyed, and when they grew way way out there I just went with it.

Some dreams so odd, once or recurring they only made sense up to 20 years later. I remember. Not like a deja vu. Just filed it away as something odd to maybe figure out later.

Don't freak if you dream reality as a seer and see it on the news... for me just a pop over the head to get me attention. Like... me folks are mostly dead. Me dad and papa visit me in dreams and tell me stuff. Not nutso. Their way of really stressing a dangerous situation to avoid. Like totalling me car and dying. Never are they wrong. Lots o people have this. Choose not to think or open their heads. Me friend is 55 years, first loss of a loved one her dad. Bad state she is. Can't sleep as he visits her in dreams. Darn it... she won't listen and went back to drinking after years of sobriety.

Actually... my losses made me strong very early. I have better relationships with some dead than when they lived. Less baggage so to speak. Works for me... best wishes in exploring the 'dream state' possibilities. I have NO control - just a measure of cognizance sometimes knowing, observing and/or interacting.

There is no limit other than those you set...
