One of my teachers told me a story he swore was completely true about his neighbour, Claire, who went to Meadowhall (a mall) with her baby son and after half a day of shopping she sat down in the food court across from a man because there were no other places. She had bought a drink and a kit kat and she watched as the man reached out, broke off a bar of her kit kat and ate it. She didn't say anything, she just leaned forward and ate the second bar. So the man ate another bar and Claire quickly ate the last bar, thinking, 'what is this man doing'. Then she got up to walk away a while later and reached into her pocket and found the kit kat that she had bought.
I thought it was funny because he swore this was true but I know very well it isn't. It's the second time i've been told this story and informed it is true. And both versions I heard used the same chocolate bar and occured in the very same food court.

I believe this story was first aired by Douglas Adams in one of his Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy novels. (circa 1980). In this case, it was biscuits rather than Kit Kats. Arthur Dent, a ficticious character in the book, relates the story, implying that Adams was copying an even earlier urban myth.

something like this happened before, i remember reading a story about a man who sat next to another guy at an airport. both were snacking on the same candy bar, which was layed in a chair between the two men. Then one of them got angry, cussed the other guy out and boarded his plane, then later found his candy inside his pocket.

It's kinda like picking up someone else's beer in a bar.... I've learned to mark my bottles by peeling off certain parts of the label now

I do something similar in that if I have a few people at my house for a beer I always put a dent near the bottom of my beercan using my thumb.
Nobody else I know seems to do that so it works well. I also used to drink bottled beer in the pub and I used to make three parallel marks with my thumbnail on the paper label to identify my drink.
