Okay, I know there may be some that will say, "It's confusing because it's a load of crap". So we have that out of the way. Here's the deal. I requested a tarot reading the other night. I asked a simple question. I'm being presented with two paths to take in my life. I'm at a crossroads. If I take the path I'm leaning towards, will it be a good thing or a bad thing? My answer was that it would be a GOOD thing, BUT the reading.... what all the girl told me was just so freakin confusing. Talking about having to look inward and dealing with past hurts and blah blah. Yes yes I know all this this wasn't what I wanted to know, rofl. Anywho, the situation is one that I'm not so sure this path will be good. So far it's been at best very rocky. So, I came across an internet tarot test listed here on the forum.
Tarot thingy

I took it. Just for kicks, mind you. But it basically said the same thing. Only confusing. I'll paste, so bear with me and let me know what YOU guys think.

The Devil

Briefly: This could be the little devil who is prankish or disruptive in the classroom or with other playmates. However it can also be a strong and forceful element in a grown up that unleashes its tremendous energies at whoever stands in the way of his/her desires. Someone can be incredibly possessive and dominating around you if you pull this card out in your reading.

This could be the little devil who is prankish or disruptive in the classroom or with other playmates. However it can also be a strong and forceful element in a grown up that unleashes its tremendous energies at whoever stands in the way of his/her desires. This is considered a Trump card, and therefore contains many powers to be utilised as the needs or desires arise. Someone can be incredibly possessive and dominating around you if you pull this card out in your reading. Often they have a love/hate relationship with someone and it could be getting out of control. Someone is madly in love with or wants to control the actions of another and this should not be allowed to continue as it represents one persons victory at the cost of another's defeat, and to great distress for the one defeated. If you are trying to succeed in business it is likely that you will with this card as there is no stopping the determination and the will to succeed. Someone may be power hungry around you and their ambitions are stirred to such an extent that failure is inconceivable to them. Do not anger or irritate those who show the slightest signs of violence or hostilities, for to unleash the devil has no boundaries or limitations to the trail of devastation it can leave in its wake.

Justice

Briefly: The time has come to reflect on the choices you have made along the way. This card shows that wrongs will be put right.
In Detail:
Whatever your past has brought to you, the time has come to reflect on the choices you have made along the way. Perhaps there were things you would rather not have done, and your are planning now to make amends for anything you would like to clear up once and for all. If there have been some people who have crossed you and brought you distress, you are now wise and mature enough to deal with it in an intelligent and abstract way. Your thoughts are on making things better and improving your relationships. If you have to go to a court of law around this time, the final decision will be one that is fair to you. This card shows that wrongs will be put right. You can assist this process by addressing those issues that had caused friction and pain in your life and make some headway towards a more harmonious relationship with those closest to you.

Five of Swords

Briefly: A time where one person has won out at the expense of two other people.
In Detail:
This card is mostly dark in colur and can represent a time of fear or depression. There are 3 people in the picture and one of them has the upper hand in the matter. The other two have lost something that they valued, whether it was love, a material possession of whatever to the one who is holding three of the swords. In the background there is the Sun setting so this can indicate early evening. One of the people is on his knees and appears to be sad and crying. He has lost whatever he/she once had and is now sorry, but it is all too late. Generally I read this as one person has won out at the expense of two other people and they are walking away with their trophy, person or thing of value. The others have lost out and they now know it. They may feel they have been betrayed, but they weren't, it was a matter of the best one winning, and there could only be one winner in this situation. Usually this means that you are the one who is the winner

disgust.gif Still don't tell me if the path I'm leaning towards is the good one or not.

It sounds like they just listed the meaning of the cards to you. That's not a tarot reading, btw, it's just telling someone what cards mean.... That's probably why it didn't make any sense.

First tell me how the cards fell individually, were they in the upright or reversed position? Did you get this reading online? I assume you did a simple three card spread to gain insight into the answer to your question "Is the path I'm on the right one for me?"

After you answer I'll try and give you a little more insight.
Sporkling
Maybe Nadia Blue you should get a psychic reader instead if you want? Or maybe tell us about your paths here? We may be able to help. Just a suggestion.

It sounded confusing probably becasue they gave too much detail and they did not read for you more simply.

Personally I only do tarot readings on myself and things related to me, and so far its worked out great. I recommend learning to use the tarot yourself for best results, and thus you also make the tarots energy a part of you and with that you'll get better and better at it the more you practice.

Best wishes!

Well see, it's not something I wanna learn to do. laugh.gif Okay, the first reading was online, yes. That second one was a three card spread I'm assuming... since there were only three cards. And it was from that link I posted up there. Is there anyone that would like to give me a reading? Have at it. Just... would prefer it be privatish. ph34r.gif

I think, some people Do lie, not all, but some..Like, they use alot of stuff, that is very BROAD, so it could account for any number of things...To make it look like it's specific for you...But, I was also to lazy to read that entire post..Sooooo lol

I think that it is so confusing because readings are widely up to the reader's interpretation of the cards' meanings when put together, because each card has a very broad meaning that is difficult to understand. I don't know, because I've never given a reading, but I've talked to some people with cards who do tarot readings.

Definately - a list of meanings has no meaning. The cards meanings doesn't tell you anything on thier own, a reading is made from the relationships between the cards and the influences of those relationships on the person having the reading. Naturally, this makes tarot interpretations quite confusing because each reader will have thier own interpretations of each cards meanings, different packs of tarot can have different meanings for the same card and different people are,of course, influenced differently by the same situations - there are so variable factors which means a spread can be interpreted is so many different ways and why tarot readings can be quite vague.

I believe it is the readers responsibility to not just tell you what the cards mean and send you on your way but to explain what the cards mean in connection with each other and help you identify those relationships and patterns within your own life. If you both play a part in the reading, you will be able draw a conclusive and informative answer together from the spread.

Like most forms of divination these things are up to personal interpretation. By both the "reader" and the person being read. Lay the same cards out in from of several people and they may tell you different meanings though everything else is the same. The online thing is just telling you the meaning of the cards and nothing else. Mind you this is about as meaningful as someone reading the cards but I digress.

If you want to make a decision in life do not look to the stars, the cards, the bones or anything else. List the pros and cons of the decision, cancel out those that are equal and then pick your path. Do not look for some spiritual guidance. Your life, your decision. Not the cards....

Tarot is confusing because thats how the parlor trick works.. Since there are so many meanings and different ways to intemperate each card you're 100% certain to be able to twist the interpretation to be something relevant. "OMG this Tarot reading links exactly to my life WHAT A COINICENCE! It's MAGIC" etc etc

I just did the tarot thingy i still don,t get it

Kevin, I'm a reasonable gal, so yes, that is how I tend to make decisions on a good day, lol. I didn't ask for a reading in order to MAKE the decision at all. I've done the pro/con list, and while my heart wants to go one way, my head tells me to go the other. Is it because I'm a chickensh*t? I don't know. I asked for the tarot mostly out of curiousity to see if it would back my head. It didn't. Go figure. laugh.gif

From what I'm reading here and learning a bit about tarot, I do think IF it's to be beneficial at ALL, you'll have to do it for yourself. I'm just not willing to spend years learning it. Not something I'm interested in at all. I know people that work with it and they still learn things about it. While normally, a long learning experience/challenge is something I'm way down for, it's not in this case. laugh.gif In the end, my decision will always be based on my common sense and brains, though.

I don't think I'll ever give Tarot a try tongue.gif

I've been reading sepulchre by kate mosse. Although it's a novel, it has renewed my interest in tarot to the extent that i've just purchased Alistair Crowleys Thoth deck. I can't wait for it to arrive!
