wow they do look alike Rebel. and both look good.
Lottie
Do I think Miss Surrey is obese, I can't say it's a medical term. But she does look slightly overweight.
She has a pretty face though and I think it's great that plus size women are shown more often in the Media.

However it makes me laugh when articles like these come out and everyone jumps on the band wagon of slating skinny girls.

Just for the record some girls are naturally thin and don't make themselves ill over it. Being thin does not mean that you aren't all woman.

I am 5ft 11 and a UK size 10 perfectly healthy, have always been thin, eat what I like and much more likely to live longer than my overweight peers.

Naturally thin ok Lottie but some of the models look like they've put themselves through famine...
Lilly
Of course naturally slim is fine, and quite attractive too! thumbsup.gif

It's the 'fashion model starvation' and the 'health impacting overweight' extremes that aren't good. I wouldn't label Miss Surrey as "obese" without knowing a bit more about her fitness level/general health/BMI/bone structure etc... One size just doesn't "fit all" despite what some may think.
stevewinn
I dont think shes fat, nice though, i'd give her an 7 1/2, outta 10, beautiful

I think she's cute. Yes, full figured, but you can see that she's careful that she wears clothing that flatters her figure... that dress is a prefect cut for her. She's also well proportioned.

I'm a little gal, size 2-4 us, but no one would accuse me of being too thin I don't think, mostly because I'm broad shouldered which adds a little bulk to my overall stature. My daughter is very very tiny, she's forever fighting to find clothing that fits her. A size 0 is often a bit baggy on her and little kids clothes just look ridiculous on her since she's 20 yo. Being a size 0 isn't bad, if you're 94lbs and 4'11 tall and have bird bones like my daughter. I'm only an inch taller but I look HORRIBLE at a size 0, but I'm much larger framed and boned. No bird bones here. LOL. You're frame has a lot to do with what size you should or should not be. It's not just about weight and height. Frame definitely comes into play.

Honestly she isn't attractive, but she has a nice.....(insert what guys like here)

She isn't obese, she is the perfect size in my opinion.
Bella-Angelique
The claim for the need for thin models from the fashion industry has been that it is essential so that the clothes hang correctly, that the fabric flows.

I suspect that if they actually designed clothes for women who are hour glass shaped rather than for unisex wear this would no longer be a problem.
Crovus v2.0
I wouldn't call her obese. She looks at the top end of healthy. Although...

(The rest of this post is not meant to offend)

The perfect girl to me (looks wise) would be 5'8" about 145-155 lbs, Well proportioned. And by that I mean, regardless of her frame, the 'meat' of her should make a slight inward curve on the sides, and a slight outward curve with the tummy.

The girls that you see modeling fashion shows that look like they're 6' and weigh 100lbs... is just nasty to me. Now a 5' even girl who weighs 100 lbs. That's fine. You're small, still nicely proportioned. A 5' even girl that weighs 170... not so much.

My wife is 5'8 and last she told me (Never know if it's true with her or not tongue.gif) weighs about 165. She still looks plenty good to me. But if she were to lose 10-15 lbs... I'd probably lose my mind (in a happy way tongue.gif)

The ones that really bother me (even more than the skeleton skinny chicks) are the ones that are 5'5 and weigh 250 lbs... I mean...seriously... HOW do you get that big? I just can't see how it's possible.

In another note... if you're a bigger girl (hell, or a guy even) and you're getting depressed because of it... Do something about it. Get some exercise. Stop eating those super fatty potato chips, and stop crying over it. If you're fat and happy about it. That's cool too! One of my best friends growing up weighed over 250 lbs. Yeah he was a big guy, but he didn't care.

So...to sum up my rather random thoughtprocess tongue.gif:
If you're fat and don't wanna be or you're unhealthy... fix it.
If you're skinny and don't wanna be or you're unhealthy... fix it.
If you don't care what others think about you. Stay just the way you are wink2.gif

Personality, truly is, the key to a lasting relationship.

Oh, as for the Miss Surrey, IMO: Not obese, but losing 20 lbs wouldn't hurt her either.

MissMelsWell
Well, here are the measurements of the ever-so-bodacious Marilyn Monroe:

Height: 5 feet, 5˝ inches

Weight: 135+/- pounds

Bust: 35-37 inches

Waist: 22-23 inches

Hips: 35-36 inches

Bra size: 36D

That would have made her roughly a size 10 in today's dress sizes; in the 50's, it would have been roughly a size 10/12. (vanity sizing today is smaller for larger sized bodies)

Ms. Surrey looks to me to be about Marilyn's proportions, but she's probably taller, and maybe a hair thicker through the waist. Ms. Surrey is pretty, and healthy.

Lilly
Wow, so Marilyn would be considered *fat* by today's standards! Frankly, it seems (to me anyway) rather strange that this is so. I wonder how many men secretly still prefer the MM body type? Must be some...Miss Surrey had to have garnered quite few votes to have won the title!
Regency
I think she's gorgeous. I bet she looked very voluptous amongst lots of skinny minnies (gorgeous I've no doubt, but thin).

Wow I never knew that!!

I read this (Click me) where it says she did get up to a size 16. Interesting-- oh you have to read the article, it explains it all.

My main point in posting this was not to incite anger with normally thin people. What got to me was the papers are calling this woman obese. That PLUS the fact the media has run with this sort of mystifies me. I know many women who are Miss Surrey's size and personally do not consider them obese...possibly a tad heavy but certainly not obese!!

Also, women who are tiny or whatever, God bless You. I have nothing againt that. I just thought this article was a little unecessary. I don't have issues with others body types at all.

The size 16 is somewhat of a misnomer... that's a 16 UK size. which is roughly equivelant to a 12 US sizes.
Crovus v2.0
I never really cared too much for her in the past, but I decided to look her up to see how she looked with those measurements you gave. Yes, that would be the perfect size to me. Especially those hips... mmmm... Sorry, some guys crave the chest, I just love the hips.

Yeah, kinda hard to believe that Marilyn would be fat by today's standard. Pretty lame if you ask me.

-C
Lilly
Ya know, Marilyn must have a had a real tough time buying pants...her hip to waist difference was like 13 inches! My waist to hip difference is only 11 inches and I have a real hard time (can't even buy a waisted pant, have to always get mid rise). The standard difference used by clothing companies (hip to waist) is only 8 inches (in the US at least). An hour glass figure sounds good...just try and dress it though, frustrating.
MissMelsWell
It is frustrating, I know from experience. My blouse size is roughly an 8-10, my skirt/pant size is 4. When I buy a dress (which saddly is almost never) I have to buy a size 8/10 and have a tailor take it in several inches in the waist and hip. And if I'm not careful about the cut I buy, the tailoring ruins the line of the dress.
belial
Give me a Miss Surrey, over any catwalk string thing anytime, she looks fantastic/lickable/loveable/squeezable, geeze i'm off for a 'cough cough' lay down tongue.gif

I remember reading that she had to have all her clothes altered; she couldn't just go out and buy an outfit. I have a rough time finding a dress that fits as well...I usually choose to wear blouses and skirts.

I hear you there! I have a smallish waist, but big hips and bottom! It makes finding pants next to impossible! And no, I don't think she is obese.

I have it both ways...big top/bottom, small waist, and I'm rather tall as well. Try finding clothes that fit a real hourglass shape...good luck there!

Looking on the bright side, at least we can walk into a room and be *noticed*. Although at times I'd rather be a bit less *noticed* (if you know what I mean).

papers are calling this woman obese.

You know, obese is a medical term which means you are 30% or more over your ideal weight. So, if your ideal weight is 120 lbs and you are 156 lbs, you are actually 'obese' from a clinical standpoint. Keeping that in mind, Miss Surrey here is probably obese.

I think the article is using the clinical term for shock value (to get discussions like this started, I bet original.gif ) because many people think obese and "really fat" are synonymous, which they really are not.

I think she's lovely.
crtDzyn
She's lookin pretty good, definitely not what I would call obese. Not exactly my taste either, but she's got some verrry nice cleavage goin... I'd motorboat that wink2.gif laugh.gif

Miss Surrey becomes an international inspiration

Chloe Marshall will now compete in the Miss England final

CHLOE Marshall, the plus-size teenager crowned Miss Surrey for 2008, has revealed she took part in the pageant because she was “sick of size-zero girls”.

“I entered to prove to other girls that big is beautiful and also you do not have to starve yourself to fit in,” she said.

“It feels great, I cannot believe it. I am really happy I can put a positive message out there as I am sick of seeing size-zero girls all over magazines.

“I proved that curvy girls can be in a beauty pageant and from now on maybe more healthy, positive people will enter.

“My family and friends are really proud of me for doing something not for myself but for other people. They are really supportive.”

Worldwide interest
I think she is a hot looking brunette, I love brunettes!
The trainee beautician, from Cranleigh, has become the first size 16 girl to reach the final of Miss England.

She trounced nine other young females, the majority of whom were trim and blonde, to scoop the regional prize.

And news of Miss Marshall’s victory has spread across the globe like wildfire.

Daily papers in India, Malaysia, America, Australia and Switzerland have all featured stories on the 16-year-old scooping the county crown.

Miss Marshall, who is single, has also been snapped up by the Models Plus agency, and has been posing at fashion shoots in London where her 5ft 10in, 12 stone eight pound, and size DD cup figure has been in huge demand.

The Miss England final will take place in London in July.

true that thumbsup.gif

I wear size 5, I look and feel perfectly healthy, and average. My dad is 6'2 and looks like a human tooth pick so I figure my metabolism pretty high. I've been very embarrassed publicly when people have asked me if I eat among other rude things. I try to be nice, idk maybe they think their complementing some way. Some times I wounder, is this how*SNIP*America is?? If your not over weight people think you are anorexic or a druggy. mellow.gif

Some girls are naturally large, and that doesn't mean they're not healthy. Seen the reality shows with these beauty pageant contestants? They do a lot more work then you would think. up at 5 AM for photo shoots, missing meals, traveling, and if you're as popular as this one is, there are prolly a lot of public apperences. Wonder if shes losing weight with all that. Some girls should NEVER be a size 3.. and I think this is one of them.. this is healthy for her, and good that she knows that!
Lilly
Please do not circumvent the profanity filter. Also, it's just not good form to insult an entire country for the bad behavior of a few.

sam12six
I also wouldn't call her obese medically speaking. From a personal POV, if I saw her somewhere, I would think to myself, "Self, that girl would look pretty good if she lost a couple of pounds."

I'm always being teased because I go for tiny girls. Not bony, tiny. 5'-nothing and 105 pounds is perfect for me - just love the way that feels against me.

I probably like thin girls more than any guy I've known personally enough to discuss that. Not bony and unhealthy - just thin, but I'm not a boob man either though.

I've never heard a guy saying he liked the "Concentration camp look" in a woman. If you pick up any porn magazine you won't find it full of fashion model bodies, you'll find it full of healthy bodies (plus a regrettable amount of silicone). It's the women's fashion magazines that sell the anorexia chic look to women. I've never been able to figure out why.

As for hard-to-find clothes, why do you think muscular guys only dress nice when they've got a lot of money? I'm 5'10" with about 8% bodyfat, weigh 200lbs and have a 19.5" neck. Certainly not a bodybuilder, but I don't work out either, it's all about genetics for some. I've never once found a dress shirt that fit without tailoring, and I'm not a really big guy. The fashion world is it's own reality and doesn't (or at least shouldn't) affect those of us in the real world. It amazes me that women see the models and would never try to emulate the terrible haircuts they sport for shock value and attention, but worry themselves silly if they can't match the bodies.

Their proportions are completely different, she looks like she must weigh closer to 170 lbs, she's at least a few BMI points higher than Monroe.

Personally i think she looks gorgeous as well as healthy, and happy! I congradulate her on her win, and wish her all the best life can offer! thumbsup.gif
The Skeptic Eric Raven
Without judging the girl talked about, I have to say obesity is at epidemic highs. I myself need to loose to around 15lbs. I just lost 15 recently. Taking looks out of the picture, carrying around an extra 20+ pounds is just not healthy and the cost to ourselves in the long run is terrible. Boo ya.
