Just realizing that you were going into that thing must be so horrifying, I can't imagine! And wow! Your family! To have to say, my dad got wood chippered to death. Oh my! So awful! Sad. Reminds me of Saddams sons. One of them liked to use the chipper to dispatch people. Ugh.

The only thing I can think of that would stop the wood-chipper is something metal, like keys, steel boots or a belt buckle.
Has anyone seen the movie 'Fargo'
I remember watching a news story that was similiar. There were two tree-trimmers, one was in the basket cutting tree branches and the other was picking up the branches that fell and put them in the shredder. Well the shredder made a distinct sound to the worker heard up in the basket and tried to ask his co-worker to what was it that went into it, but couldn't find him. He came down and out of the basket only to fear the worse.

i though something that bigger / thicker than branch will make it jam. dunno. i've read about same case here, a worker hand being caugh by chipper and the machine jammed when the body (jammed at shoulder+head) is entered. of course hes dead and messy
