Hey, i've got a problem with my computers audio output. yesterday i was recording a song for my band with my computer. i connected my guitar amplifier to my computer . (a cable going from the "emulated line out" of my amplifier into the "microphone" input on my computer). I could hear my bass coming out the computer speakers fine. As i was recording, i heard something pop inside my amplifier. so i turned it off at the mains and unplugged it from the wall, and disconnected all cables (to guitar and to computer) i opened up my amplifier to discover that it had blown up inside. I'm not sure of the names of the parts inside however, but a part had come loose. my amplifier does not work. When i tried to listen to what i had previously recorded, i had no sound coming out of the speakers on my screen or the my desk speakers. i have tested both pairs of speakers. my screen speakers are working fine, i'm currently listening to my ipod through them. My desk speakers are working fine, i have tested my ipod with them too. So i have came to the conclusion that the problem lies within the computer. I simply get no sound at all, even from earphones. I don't think its a software problem, i have turned the computers volume up full (while not on mute tongue.gif). Maybe its a hardware problem? could someone please leave a message with any ideas they think could be wrong with my computer? I can only imagine that when my amplifier blew up, it has done something to BOTH audio output sockets on my computer.

Thank you so much. I really need my sound back, as i'am working on a album, and i have no other computer with recording software.

If your using windows, I might just have the solution for you...

On the little menu thing (i'm not too computer literate) at the bottom right of the screen, there's probably an icon like the one circled in red on the attatchment below (or above, or wherever it turns up...) If you double click it and adjust the 'master volume', and whatever else is too low, the volume might come back.

It happened to me as well, and I thaught that i'd have to get a guy in to fix my pc.

If that doesn't work, im afraid i'm all out of ideas.

hope it works... thumbsup.gif

i don't have that icon. i tried going to control panel to access my sound properties and i clicked "add sound icon to desktop bar" but it says i need to install it :s i'm really confused. i need my sound back. and yes i'am using WINDOWS XP not Vista.

a possible suggestion..
may wanna check your drivers..
hit control panel, hit system, hit hardware, then device manager..
see if there is any exclamation point, or red Xes by any of your devices.. you may need to update...

That sounds knarley dude. Ummmm the output hey? I dont know diddly sqwat about PC's, but I do know that the sound set up inside your PC cant compeat with a kickin A amplifier, let alone a guitar pugged in to it. The speaker inside your PC is but a tiny little thing in comparison. no.gif Sorry to hear about the lack of noise matey. sad.gif wink2.gif

to the person who suggested checking my drivers. thers no X or ! beside any of the drivers.

and to xcrimsonx maybe i've blown something inside my computer? maybe the sound card? cause i'm not getting any sound when i talk into my mic (the audiowaves should still appear on the screen even if they aren't being played) soo it could be an electronic fault with the sound card?

oh i'm so confused. should i buy a new soundcard?

I would check my sound options first off ... Start> Settings> Control Panel> Sounds And Audio Settings

Make sure your volume is setup the way you want it.

Now, try running an audio player, see if your song of choice is actually running (the Audio bar at the bottom would be moving with every second of the song)

If it is, then you more than likely do need a new sound card. Although you can try to take out the current card and re-seat it (as long as its not on board)
I picked up a nice little sound card for about $25 at www.newegg.com

Best Of Luck!

Ok, assuming you have a Desktop Pc and not a laptop... you need to pop the side panel off the tower and take out the card that has your audio ports on it. look this card over, blow off any dust... and give it a lil sniff... if it smells like burnt plastic, toss it in the trash and get a new video card. If it smells alright, put it back into its slot (re-seat) and make sure its in firmly... then plug the PC back up, and boot it back up and give it a try.

Or you may have a sound card as part of the motherboard (many newer boards have the sound built in.) You can see this when you open up the case if the speaker ports are directly attached to the motherboard.
