No he tracks it down to Zimbabwe and Mugabi won't let him in to film it, but he does get a film from a local crew. He claims the ark of the covenant to be a drum, a sacred item to an African tribe of Jewish origin. It's an interesting idea. But surely the ark was built to hold stone tablets - a drum doesn't seem like a very good way to do that. If his theory is true we would have to question the idea of stone tablets. We would have to assume that the ten commandments were never inscribed on stone, but memorised and chanted to the beat of a drum. However, the African tribe never claimed their drum to be the ark, although it is undoubtably an object of great religious significance to them. I'm inclined to think that if the ark of the covenant does still exist it is elsewhere. However I do take his point about creating a gold plated box in the desert would be very difficult, but it is possible that they first created a wooden box and embellished it at a later date. It was a very interesting and thought provoking program. The geneticists proving an African legend was fascinating. Did anyone else see it?
