"OTTAWA — Nalgene, the brand that popularized water bottles made from hard, clear and nearly unbreakable polycarbonate, will stop using the plastic because of growing concern over one of its ingredients.

The decision by Nalgene Outdoor Products, a unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific, based in Rochester, came after reports that the Canadian government would declare the chemical bisphenol-a, or BPA, toxic. Some animal studies have linked the chemical to changes in the hormonal system.

Those reports also prompted many of Canada’s largest retailers, including Wal-Mart Canada, to remove food-related products made with plastics containing the compound chemical, like baby bottles, toddler sipping cups and food containers, from their stores this week."

What about medicine , tablets , vaccins , hospital appliances ?? They all come in plastic bottles !
ROGER
The reason manufacturing switched from glass to plastic containers long ago was that plastic was cheaper. With the rising cost of Oil , is this now the case ? May be we should switch back to glass for health and economic , and ecological reasons.

It's good that glass is making a comeback. I've always had a place in my heart for 'oldschool' glass bottles. thumbsup.gif

HMMM. this is a thinker. I don't know which side of this that I would support if the need arose.

I do like that Coke is now using recycles coke bottles to make t-shirts...has anyone else seen the commercial for that?

This chemical's in Baby bottles and toddler cups? If it's as bad as they say, changes in the hormonal system, who know's what it could do to a kid? Moving on, I've got a nice plastic bottle of 7Up right here, want some?

I actually saw some for sale the other day. It took me a minute to "get" the sign that was up advertising them. . ."Ever had a shirt made from a bottle?" laugh.gif

So. . . baby bottles and stuff? Thats scary. I'm rather partial to glass as well. . .things just seem to taste better from glass bottles. . . In fact. . I just bought a six pack of Coke in glass bottles. . .I was having a nostalgic moment.
