Must every large lake have to hold a monster? I mean the puny pond next door that could hardly hold an alligator...well, my friends keep trying to convince me that they saw a crocodile looking reptile emerge and blink at them.

Yes, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing. Even though I know they are kidding, I can't help but cast the pond dirty looks.

if the marathon swimmer ''thought'' he saw something and the natives believe that the monster is dangerous why didn't it attack the swimmer or was it just testing out its swim speed compared to humans =)

Maybe it mellowed with age? (Not to mention the Okanagan is now pretty well known for the marijuana grow ops.. )

I live here in the Okanagan, in fact I'm in the city on its northern tip.
Its just a gimmick for tourism.
I've seen one movie with some critter swimming in the lake, looked like a beaver... tho beaver are quite rare here.
The waves are just that... waves.
Any other possibilities, there are large fish in the Okanagan, and it is quite a deep lake.

Yes, no matter how exciting and wondrous it would be for such a creature to live there, I highly doubt there is such a monster in the lake. *sigh*

The tourism angle has been troubling me for some time, about a variety of cryptid reports. Follow the money, as they say.

Odd, small waves and wakes, but no boats in sight. Instead of looking for a rational, naturally occurring, underwater cause or phenomenon, a few people cling to the belief that this is evidence of a prehistoric, aquatic dinosaur. They go so far as inventing underwater "tunnels" or "caves" that lead directly to the ocean, but no such thing has been found -- "but that's because it's so VAST... and there's so much SILT" -- more excuses. And then the lake monster belief is subjected to more theories about "back evolution" so it can somehow travel easily back and forth from fresh to saltwater -- a constantly evolving "Maybe if..." based on nothing but theory upon previous theory upon previous theory upon previous theory -- whatever fits the mold of the latest anecdotal "evidence" and "sightings."
You kids need to smoke and ingest just a little bit more skepticism in between the pot hits. I'd have to be smoked up before buying an Ogopogo t-shirt, but I'd probably do it out of admiration of the entrepreneurial spirit from a small group of Canadians promoting that legend to make a few bucks, but obviously not as much as those folks in Scotland. They've got that tourist trap gimmick nailed.

Yeah, it has quite the mud... great for slinging at each other when we were kids.
There is also the problem with the milfoil weed, its everywhere. There were plans to put carp in the lake to eat the milfoil, but there was concern about carp competing for food that other fish eat.

LOL I love Canada !!! I grew up in Nakusp B.C. yaya a little wee town but we went to the Okanogan valley alot and I have to say when tubing I always had this feeling in the back of my head (jaws theme) LOL still get that when I swim in the ocean damn it. Kelowna is on the lake and well ya, it's a money grab. Tourism is a big thing there, hell they even have a Flinstone style theme park. But damn go there in the summer and it's bikinni town and well yummm.

Oh, thanks for the vid, DrDeano. The video proves beyond any doubt that the creature exists, the only question now is, what it it exactly?
Very long and snake-like, with fins. Certainly something new..

Thanks for the video, it is interesting. That would have to be a really, really, fat beaver. Maybe I can make some kind of beaver diet plan and advertise it around lake Okanagan.
On a more serious note, I'm not sure if it is a beaver. The angle certainly looks like it, but could it really have been that huge?
