Hi there,

Im a relatively new (though not totally inexperienced) user to the ouija board. Me and my partner always follow a set routine to ensure safety at all times. We are fairly familiar with the usual pattern of response we get from the board, but yesterday I asked a yes no question (are there any good spirits who wish to talk to us) and the planchette moved to z first, then y when asked again. Straight after moving to Y it moved to W, A, K, M then end. I just wondered if there was anyone who could shed any light on this as usually it takes ages before the board spells anything out!

Thanks! x
ņoņiku
well i've never actually used a ouija board but i might be able to shed some light on your experiments.

whenever conducting an 'experiment' paranormal or other you should ALWAYS keep an open mind, im not saying that the ouija board is totall bull and that someones making the peice move but, the peice that you hold on to could be influenced by a paranormal force or it could also be influenced by you or your partners own involutarry hand movements. it might not be done on purpose but their is a chance that either one of you are moving the puzzle peice.
salvationisnowhere
Yes I totally agree. I find them fascinating but dont necessarily think its anything spiritual. Im pretty open minded though! I just found the experience a little strange as it was different to the usual pattern. x
ņoņiku
i think you should replicate the same experiment and how it happened and maybe try to duplicate the results to see if its something other wordly or just a coincidence.
salvationisnowhere
that could be an idea yes...we were both really tired also so that might explain why it doesnt make much sense. I was hoping to hear from someone who isn't as skeptical as me, maybe someone who believed it was spiritual and see what they thought if there's anyone about?
jpatt
Since you are already familiar with your own particular patterns you receive, you likely are also aware of, especially when the sitters are tired, that the board tends to spell badly from time to time. One possibility is you were being pointed to photographic artist Edwin Zwakman: http://www.akinci.nl/Edwin_Zwakman/Zwakman.htm and http://www.core77.com/blog/object_culture/...e_grid_6064.asp

The Y might substitute for the E.

It's possible you are also being directed to Franklin Tennessee's AM-950 WAKM radio station: http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finde...Y&call=WAKM

Perhaps an Australian news article from 1908 about blankets: http://www.paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-b...-en--1----0-all

Alternately, Sharon Bullock's financial contribution of $50.00 to a relay team: http://www.firstgiving.com/jonathanwarren

Lastly, a Japanese medical center article on Diversed gene expression of smooth muscle cells in prone and resistant areas of the human aorta: http://sciencelinks.jp/j-east/article/2001...201A0067311.php

As you can see, the Mystifying Oracle remains just that.
salvationisnowhere
wow thats really amazing that you found all that...when I searched it on the net the only thing it came up with was the radio station. Anyhow thanks so much for your response. I will have to see if I can unearth anymore information!

the only advice I can give you is to never ever use the ouijaboard. You never know what's on the other side.

i hope you guys do know that a ouija board is a tool to open door ways to the spirit realm dont you.
i would hope so it's like a phone your not just making a phone call you are eviting whatever your talking to thruopgh the board and giving them access to yourselfs .
jpatt
The board is a tool to open doorways to the spiritual realm? Crap, I was trying to open a doorway to the Victoria's Secret model dressing rooms! But its a tool - like a Jaws of Life or a giant pry bar? Or an astral lockpick set or something?

Wait, now it's like a phone, except you invite spiritual realm entities through the board and give them access to yourself. So it's a phone that opens doors. So it's like a cross between a Star Trek communicator and Doctor Who's sonic screwdriver?

I can find no fault with your tool/phone analogy - except the definitions.

But in all seriousness, no, I don't believe talking boards do any such things.

There is no such thing as "ensuring" safety when your meddling in the spiritual world.

you dont have to like my reply but you dont need to bash people eather. thats rude.
you should look up the meaning of ouija boards you might figure out that what i said is true, just put in my own words.
these boards are tools to contact the spiritual realm they are not toys . and should never be used as a toy . like it or not thats how i feel and yes i have used one before more then once i have also used decks of cards in the same manner but hey i dont know what i talking about .
salvationisnowhere
I dont agree either way; I have no proof that it is or isnt connected with a spiritual realm, but I am fascinated with why it moves the way it does and for that reason, when I say I follow steps to insure any kind of protection there may be, thats as much psychological as it is spiritual. If you tell your mind your ok, theres not much that can harm you as far as spirits are concerned, and theres no damage can be done psychologically.

I personally think that part of the harm done using ouija boards is the psychological damage of not understanding, or being convinced its all spiritual.
jpatt
I apologize if you were offended, I was in an amused mood and your post "spoke to me" in that manner, for some reason, but my comments were about what you said, not you personally. And it also wasn't your post specifically, only that it is an exceptional example of all similar ideas about Ouija boards, the origin and logic of which I just can't fathom, and so find them humorous.

If a person is stable and rational and can apply some critical thinking to the situation, the "worst" thing he/she will get from a session is a bad pun. That is not to say there isn't "danger" involved, I believe there are people that should not make use of boards because they are not mentally/emotionally "fit" to do so, and it these are the people where the horror stories come from.
darkbreed
I recommend that you perform a license to depart after using the ouija board. Here is a description about how to perform that from another thread I wrote about some ceremonial magic rituals:
-
A License to Depart is a simple banishing you perform to rid the area of any astral entities and spirits that might have been attracted to you from the energies you are creating during these rituals. This you can perform as follows:

When you've finished your ritual(s), and before you blow out the lights of the candles, say out loud and with feelings "All spirits, beings and astral entities of all kinds whom have been summoned and gathered here today are now free to leave. May you travel with peace and love to where you came from and to where you belong. I grant you the license to depart, so now go home with the protection of God on your way. AMEN!" - vibrate AMEN while visualizing all the entities departing and leaving, flying far away to wherever they came from, just like moths fly away from the light when it's turned off.
-

I'd also advice you to perform a LBRP before and after using the ouija board as well. For more information about this read my thread about it at: http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum...p;#entry2087376

You'd probably want to include your board in a ritual as well to cleanse it, you can add that as a part of the LBRP, such as asking the arch angels to cleanse it and make it only attract good and honest spirits etc.

If you actually are in contact with other spirits, or just parts of your own imagination, I can't really tell you as my personal adventures with the ouija board is too limited for any conclusions. But I like the old saying "Better safe than sorry" so I take my precautions with such things, as well as any other possibly unsafe matters.

Bes of luck be with you!

I personally think that part of the harm done using ouija boards is the psychological damage of not understanding, or being convinced its all spiritual.

I'd like to endorse that view, with something I posted yesterday (GMT) in a thread about self-hypnosis:

While the reality in both the Ouija and self-hypnotic cases is that you are talking to yourself, if you layer in a fantasy that you are not just talking to yourself, but rather "opening" (funny how the same verb, to open, comes up in both contexts) yourself to "influences," then that is dangerous. But the danger is of the same kind as the danger inherent in acting out any fantasy or false appreciation of the situation in real life.

The bottom line is that you are always "open to suggestion." You can talk yourself into things, and others can talk you into things.

Tiggs is right: words do have power - always and under all physiological and psychological circumstances. Othello is a great cautionary tale. Nobody is half-asleep or "opening themselves" in that play, but horrible things happen anyway, and the mechanism for the tragedy is "just words."

Heres something I found on those things that might you...

Ouija board use, summoning, and demon possession
I was in my mid twenties and my younger sister had just finished college and was looking for a place to live, so I asked to move in with me for a while, until she got on her feet. Cathy was always into the paranormal and ghost hunting, even as a child. However she was always very responsible while hunting so when I came home and she and several of her friends were concentrating on a Ouija Board I wasn't too concerned. I should have been!

The next night the same friends were over. They were hanging out laughing and cutting up when I overheard one of the guys ask if everyone wanted to see if they could contact "him" again. Everyone said yes, and the Ouija Board was brought out again. Again, I figured that this was all in fun (I mean what can happen with a 15.00 board game right?) so I went on to bed.

At around 6:30 AM I woke up to the sound of crying. It was Cathy, she as sitting on the sofa with her arms wrapped around her knees. When she heard me come in she looked up at me and what she said made me cringe. She said "Oh my God Caryn, it was real." And for some odd reason down inside I knew that we were in trouble.

Over the next several days Cathy filled me in on the Ouija Board parties she and her friends had been having. Evidently these get together's had been going on for over a month. Each person accusing the others of moving the pointer when a question was asked. All in good fun. The trouble started when the pointer began to move before any of them had placed their hands over it. Then it seemed as if the Ouija Board was asking them questions; at first silly stuff, and everyone thought that everyone else was moving the pointer until the last night. And then everyone realized that this was much more than they could control.

The pointer began to spin violently as it did so the air was filled with a putrid stench. Cathy said a couple of the girls began to vomit. Over the next several moments everything in the living room that could be moved in any way began to move. Well, this succeeded in scaring the wits out of every one in the room and the party broke up with the Ouija Board being thrown into the dumpster outside the house.

Then things began to get weird. At first it was little things, you know, things like lost car keys, or something that you've been looking for suddenly appearing in a spot that you are certain that you've already looked. But over the next week things became more certain; such as doors slamming, and the toilet flushing on it's own. I even kidded Cathy telling her that one of the ghosts she was hunting for had come to visit. When a foul odor appeared we looked for something rotten in the cabinets, or perhaps in the refrigerator. I even changed out the garbage disposal to no avail. No matter what I did the odor returned. But it was when Cathy's personality changed that I realized that we were dealing with a demon.

Overnight Cathy went from being a sweet level headed young woman, to being a foul mouthed smartass. Her personality changed so completely that she was unrecognizable to some of her friends. She even walked differently. And smell so bad that it was all I could do to stay in the same room with her. It seemed that as the demon in her got stronger, Cathy was disappearing within herself.

We were raised in an Assembly of God church, so I knew that I couldn't fight this thing alone and called my pastor. When he came to counsel with Cathy she became physically ill. And she absolutely would not let him touch her to pray for her. Her stomach cramped so severely that you could see the knot in her abdomen. She vomited what seemed like a gallon of the most vile stuff that I've ever smelled and seen. (and I'm a nurse) Her temp rose drastically to a dangerous 104.8 and stayed there. The pastor left with the intent of calling together the church members and facing this thing. Even though we were from a spiritual church this wasn't something any of the church members had ever seen.

Five days later I tricked Cathy, who by this point had refused to bathe for several days, into coming with me for a ride. And for one moment I caught a glimpse of the sister that I loved so dearly when after we were in the car she over at me and with tears in her eyes said "I'm sorry sis, I thought it was all pretend.." By the time we arrived at the church Cathy was no where to be seen in that body. I literally dragged her into the sanctuary and onto the very last pew. Throughout the song service she made hiccupping and a sort of grunting sound. The pastor asked for everyone in the building to come and form a circle around the alter. As we did the demon began to manifest it's self completely. She began screaming obscenities. We held hands and began to pray. The pastor asked God to bind the demon to not allow him to leave the sanctuary. He asked God for forgiveness for all of his sins, asked God to give he and everyone there strength. He repeatedly said "I plead the Blood of Jesus on every soul in the building. " Every time he said that Cathy's screams got louder. He then looked up at us and instructed us to focus on God, to completely ignore the demon. To not answer it's obscenities. Then he stood in the center of the circle at the alter and called the demon out. He commanded "in the name of Jesus" that the demon leave Cathy's body. At first the demon laughed and informed him that he was not strong enough to cast him away. But the pastor kept repeating In the name of Jesus, I order you to leave the body you are in.

For several moments things were quiet and I thought that perhaps it had left. But then I saw my baby sister lay down on the ground and slither like a snake up to the circle. She left a trail of excrement down the isle of the church. Church members began to get physically sick. Several started to heave. The pastor got down on the floor and spoke directly into my sisters face. He called for Cathy to fight with everything that was in her.
To somehow get her body up on the alter. And after several minutes (seemed like days to me) she did manage to position herself across the alter. The pastor then spoke directly to the demon calling him by name and ordered him to leave the body of the child laying before him. He reached over and placed his hand on Cathy's forehead and began to pray in a language that I did not understand. The demon screamed and writhed and shouted obscenities but the pastor only prayed louder. Finally after what seemed like an eternity Cathy's body arched back into what looked like a gymnastics' stunt with her body shaking so badly I was afraid that it might kill her, then fell silently to the floor. As her body fell to the floor every window in church blew out, and every door flew open simultaneously.
As I stood there I watched my sister come back. Her eyes came open, and tears fell (hers and mine). Church members were lifting their hands to praise God. The pastor reached out his hand to Cathy and she grabbed him around the neck crying. Through the busted out windows came a cool gentle breeze. It seemed to swirl around everyone there, and left a fragrance that I'd never smelled before or since.

That was several years ago. And I know that it sounds outrageous, but every word is true. Cathy remembers some of the things, and mercifully doesn't remember it all. What she does remember is seeing herself do and say things that she couldn't control. And not knowing how to stop it.

When I told my pastor that you would like to hear the story he asked me to tell you one thing. And that is that it was God who cast out the demon, NOT THE PASTOR. He told me to make certain that I made that clear to you. And he asked me to tell you that no human being by them self can cast out a demon. They are very strong and have powers beyond out imagination. Only God has the power to make them leave. They are tricksters and will often present themselves as the entity of a small child or a soul looking for something. They are not to be played with or conjured or even spoken to.

Well Jim, remember you asked for it. I hope it helps with your study. Like I said, I am a big fan of your website.

caryn

Jim's comments
I include below my correspondence with Caryn. She initially wrote in hopes of discouraging me from soliciting responses from demons. I heeded her advice and stopped that portion of the research then I asked her to share her story and experience. Read on...

Caryn's initial email of warning to me
Jim, I am a true fan of your website. It is the first place I stop when sit down
at the computer. However it really concerns me that you want a demon to
contact you. Demons are not something to be courted. And actively seeking one can be disastrous on not only you, but the people whom are closest to you. Be careful. It will only toy with you. It will not tell you the truth and will most likely present it's self as an angel or other friendly entity. They can be extremely difficult to get rid of. I'm not trying to sound melodramatic, but I ran across a demon years ago. It was an experience that I never will forget, and one that I never want to experience again.
Thanks for listening (or reading) original.gif -Caryn

My response to Caryn
Caryn, Thank you for your concern in this matter. I have already removed the demon section from the research page. I have received other concerns similar to yours and I am definitely seeing the wisdom in such counsel. By the way, would you mind sharing your demon experience with me? And possibly letting me know what eventually brought an end to it? It would mean a great deal to me. Thank you so much for your counsel in this matter. It was definitely taken in the spirit for it was intended. Jim Eaton

Caryn's reply
Jim, I am so relieved to hear that you have rethought the idea. I would be happy to share my experience with you and your website. However it does involve prayer and God, and I know that some people do not want to hear about Him. Let me know. And should I e-mail it directly to you, or submit it to the website? Thanks for answering me, I know you are a busy person! Caryn

My reply back to Caryn
Caryn, Please send it directly to me. original.gif
I think people should know what it takes sometimes to gather protection and rid themselves from these things in the proper manner. Religion is a good thing and I don't think it's talked about enough on the web and on this site. At least it's not in the paranormal community. I was also reading something the Warren's have written about demons and they say their protection stems from their religion and prayer. They encourage everyone to protect themselves through their own religious confections. So please don't be hesitant about sharing your source of strength with us here at Ghoststudy. Jim

Jim's final comments to all
Caryn then submitted her story to us so that we may read it and learn from it.
I would counsel all to stay clear of Ouija boards. One of the biggest problems I have run across in my dealings with the ghost hunting community are those being attacked by evil entities through Ouija board use. The stories are real and results can be quite horrifying. Sure, it doesn't happen to everyone that uses a Ouija board but it can at some point. Especially if you have and entity close by that would love nothing more than an invitation to terrorize you and your family. We will soon be starting a section on Ghoststudy concerning Ouija boards. This in hopes of conveying the dangers of using such a device for spirit / ghost communication. In this new section, We will be sharing true experiences from actual viewers, as well as instructions in getting rid of your board, ways to help protect yourself if you absolutely insist on summoning entities in this manner, and instructions for contacting the dead in a safe manner.

Thank you Caryn for starting the ball rolling!

Do you think it 'really' moved by itself?
Stricken
I don't completely believe in the Ouija board. I think that it's you moving the marker (Or whatever your using) and your sub-councious is revealing the answers, not a complete waste of time. You could possibly find out something about yourself.

But thats just my two cents on the matter.. I have played Ouija board before and it wasn't really convincing..
salvationisnowhere
I dont know for certain what it is that makes it move, but the subconscious seems as good an explanation as any. I certainly dont think its just spirits. Since posting this quite a while ago my experience with the ouija board has been more interesting. It now spells out actual words and sentences.
As for people trying to put me off using one, I find it very narrow minded of them. I do object to these people who go on and on about how you shouldnt use one, as someone said in a different thread this week, the people who warn you off them very rarely have their own experiences, they just get caught up in other peoples scary stories. This post was not about whether I should or shouldnt be doing it. I do it frequently and am well practiced in what I can and cannot handle. This was simply a question regarding a response I got. So please do not speak to me as though I dont know what Im doing, I probably understand alot more about it than the narrow minded people who think ouija boards are dangerous. I assume these are the same kind of people who believe it is definately spiritual rather than keeping an open mind about it and exploring it for themselves. Please dont be so narrow minded, and dont preach at people who know what they are getting themselves into, particularly when that wasnt even what the post was about.
Tami
It might be a stretch, but Y,W, A, K, M could mean:
Y= why
WAK= wake
M= 'em
Why wake 'em?

It was the first thing that shot through my mind when I read your first post.
salvationisnowhere
yeah I see what your saying there! Could be!
I wonder how much you can read into ouija responses. You can sort of make them say whatever you want them to say because they spell out random letters so often.
