tomorrow april 25, is anzac day.. a proud day for many aussies and kiwis alike. id especially like to thank my dad, who was conscripted as a young adult to join the army and fight in the vietnam war.. i am so very proud of not only my dad, but our soldiers who went and still are going, to fight for our country.
my dad was one of the unfortunate ones that fell into a certain age category of that time, and had to be called up for action.. he, like so many other vietnam vets, fight their own demons. i've seen it in my dad, and my friends dads' too. that war (and other wars too) left a very deep scar, which will refuse to heal and sometimes wore the victims down too much.. it took a lot of good ppl after the war too.
unfortunately my dad wont be able to march tomorrow, proudly displaying the medals on his chest over is heart.. this is due to the fact that he needed surgery on his knee.. bad timing on behalf of the registrar.. but he will be tipping a beer to his digger mates.. those still here, and sadly, those departed..
so to all those aussies and kiwis on here, and expats.. i urge you to rise for the dawn service.. buy a poppy and be grateful to have what you do, even if you dont always fully agree.. just appreciate you have your freedom due to a lot of young men and women who have died for their country.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest We Forget....

i love you dad... and thanks heaps for everything
