I've spoken about reflexology in the chat room here on UM. I promised I would start a thread so members could understand, so here it is!! Enjoy!!

QUOTE
Reflexology is very relaxing, especially for people who stand on their feet all day or just have tired, achy feet.
Although reflexology is sometimes called foot massage, it is more than simply that. Reflexology involves applying pressure to certain points on the foot that correspond to organs and systems in the body.

...

Reflexology also known as Zone Therapy is a traditional form of foot massage used to activate specific energy channels in the body to promote self-healing. Foot massage, already used 5000 years ago by Chinese and Egyptians, was rediscovered by Dr. William H. Fitzgerald (1872-1942) in 1915 and further developed by physiotherapist Eunice Ingham in the 1930s.

For this alternative therapy the body is divided into 10 vertical energy zones that run from the feet to the head and from the hands to the head. A dysfunction within one of this area is reflected in the corresponding zone of the feet as crystalline deposits and/or tenderness. A dysfunction in the feet may also affect the energy flow in related organs. Practitioners apply pressure and friction to the reflex points of the feet to asses and treat the whole body.

Zone Therapy is the practice of massaging, squeezing, or pushing on parts of the feet, or sometimes the hands and ears, with the goal of encouraging a beneficial effect on other parts of the body, or to improve general health.

This is the least complicated hand chart I could find. Sorry if it's confusing:

Anyways, this is what I speak of when I talk about reflexology original.gif

Ok so people just press your feet?

No it's a massage technique. The "crystals I talk about are what is broken down by rubbing, pressing and massaging. Each area corresponds to somewhere else in your body. It does work.

Interesting topic...I had a friend of mine who would do this...I would get severe migranes, she would take my foot, and press on a certain section...If I remember it was right under the small toe..After about 10 minutes of massaging, the headache was gone..What amazed me, is that I never seemed to be able to do this to myself and get any kind of results...Guess she just had that magic touch original.gif

I've never tried reflexology, but my coworker has and she said it's quite refreshing. Maybe I ought to give it a try. yes.gif

Thanks for sharing that with us Jody. original.gif

Very nifty Jody yes.gif

My mom is a Reflexologist, I don't bother to ask for a treatment because her hands are slightly arthritic, I couldn't possibly, but it feels great and has amazing health benefits like you've stated.

She insisted on doing it while I was in the delivery room to help stimulate the pressure points in hopes of an easier delivery. original.gif

I've had this done before - it's amazing.

I also want to start quoting Pulp Fiction. *giggles*
