Who here's been fool by an urban legend, or has a friend or family member who's been fooled by an urban legend?
I was fooled by the urban legend where people hide needles infected with AIDs in the seats at movie theatres. At my old job we were sent a Fax regarding this and I belived it until I read about that particular urban legend on Snopes.
My old flatmate told me the urban legend where a person's insides are fried cause they use a tanning bed too many times. She said it happened to a friend of a friend, and wouldn't listen to me when I told her it was an urban legend and tried to explain the way that particular urban legend worked. Since then I've learned not to tell people they're talking about urban legends. No matter how much you explain to them and direct them to the website Snopes they just don't want to know.
Personally, I'd rather know 'cause some of those urban legends are sooo creepy I sleep better knowing they're fake.

Someone told that story to my family when I was about five, but since I was so young I don't blame myself for believing it.

I have several friends who believe giant, Volkswagen-sized catfish inhabit waters at the base of dams. Divers are sent in to inspect and come barreling up exclaiming they'll never go down there again etc.etc.
People get downright indignant if one asks for proof. How dare you question their urban legend!

I think most of us have been fooled by at least one urban legend, but aren't they great...Handed down from generation to generation, with a little bit more intrigue added to them....

The best part is hearing these stories and making a trip to see if these things really happen......

I'm gullible, so I was fooled by most of them.
It actually wasn't until I discovered Snopes that I learned to "know better". . .and I even find myself arguing with Snopes sometimes. . .I'm so ashamed of myself. . .

Snopes is quite educational. Though I was a little red face when reading some of Snopes entries.

When I was a teen I sat for an hour with my hair full of mayo and lemon juice.
What a god awful mess and stink that was and it did nothing for my hair.

What was it supposed to do? I believe the lemon juice is to "summer blonde" your hair?

A lot of people in my local area were recently fooled by the one were the man with the knife gets into the back of your car when you go in to a garage to pay for petrol. the rumour spread so far the local newspaper had to print a story on it explaining it was an UL just so people would use the garage in question again.

My parents were fooled by this one too, they argued with me for days about it. I believe we are from the same town.

For a long time I believed that Muhammed Ali's condition was a result of being extremely punch-drunk, but someone informed me that Ali developed this condition not as a result of his former profession.
