Eerie remnants of a time long since past
forgetting the blood of the heroes now dusted in the wind
the ringing steel of battle overthrown, overcome, by old man time.

The wind blows softly, like a touch of a feather to the skin
as i sit i wonder about those times, of great battles and iron clad knights
scorcerors, kings and oh so fair maidens.

What would it be like? to sit astride a galloping steed, clasping sword and sheild....
To feel the bitterness of defeat, or the honour of victory?
to walk among the dead, that had fallen at your sword?
Or to become one?
How would you feel?

A great distance spans between us and our enemy,
the ghosts of the fallen watch on in
choked silence, they have been here before, the fallen heroes and their enemies,
they know that which is yet to unfold.

A soft murmur, a prayer of some sort can be heard....
The clanking of metal...
The stamp of a hoof....
The eeire silence.....

The time draws near, I look to the man beside me, his long golden hair flowing from beneath
his helmet, I look behind me, men to their thousands covered in glinting armour astride muscular steeds,
every muscle poised and ready to fuel the rage, fear, that we all felt.
The time of dragons, heroes, fair maidens and mages was not yet lost to me......

The enemy sits, still, as we do, waiting for each to make the first move....
My steed grows anxious, my sword and sheild clutched to my sides, armour gleaming in the light....

Waiting......

The hour grows long, then.........

THE BATTLE CRY!

The enemy bursts forth with the fury of a thousand harpies, exploding into the vast openess that is to be our battle field...
The horses rear to their hind legs, with a cry of our own we burst forth as well.......

I ask myself again....

What would it be like? to sit astride a galloping steed, clasping sword and sheild....
To feel the bitterness of defeat, or the honour of victory?
to walk among the dead, that had fallen at your sword?
Or to become one?
How would you feel?

I was about to find out.....

Wow this is great. 'The time of dragons, heroes, fair maidens and mages was not yet lost to me......' It will never be lost to those of us with imagination...it almost seems real...in a way it is real.

Very powerful dmb, again you have captured magnificently the essence of one of my favourite periods in history & worded it beautifully. thumbsup.gif

What was it like.................If my past life memory serves me well, romantic, honourable, exhausting & exhilerating! grin2.gif
