I really want to share a story I'm writing in my creative writing class, but the text contains profanity and drug use. Would I violate something there? I really want to get some feedback from the story I'm writing, from people I don't know. It's hard to find people who are willing to read it.

EDIT
And later in the story, some violence.

When it comes to things like this, we haven't got a hard-and-fast rule like "x number of profanities is permitted, but y number will be censored". It's a case-by-case scenario. As a general rule, if you think it would be an acceptable story for a child to read, then it will probably be acceptable here. If it is too graphic/crude/rude for children, then chances are it will be not acceptable.

If you are in doubt, you could always PM the story to a moderator and ask them for their opinions on subject matter first. If there are only a couple of profanities, you could simply substitute it with "****". If there are much more, then chances are it wouldn't be acceptable anyway.

That is how I would take it into consideration, at least thumbsup.gif All the best,

I'd gear towards disallowing it if it contains any references to personal drug use, from our terms of service:
QUOTE
2b. Illegal material: Do not post material which is violative of any law or which describes illegal activities such as taking, growing, buying or selling drugs, the sale or promotion of weapons, hacking, downloading pirated software, movies or music, participation in criminal offences or plans to enact criminal acts.

Note: To clarify; a discussion for example in response to a news item about drug legalisation is acceptable, but describing or promoting personal drug use, using the site to organise the distribution of drugs or to promote, organise or undertake any other illegal act is strictly forbidden.

and
QUOTE
3c. Profanity: Do not use profanity, crude, vulgar language or attempt to intentionally bypass the profanity filter.
