A 20-year-old man pleaded guilty in London court Wednesday to 10 charges for beating and sexually assaulting his live-in girlfriend.
Soon after the couple moved in together, court heard they became involved in regular verbal disputes, which became increasingly violent in nature.
Ontario Court Justice Kathleen McGowan ordered the accused to be sent for a 60-day psychiatric assessment.
At the end of the assessment, the accused will return to court and lawyers will present further submissions.
Court heard a developmentally delayed couple moved in together in June 2007, and on Oct. 5, London police received an anonymous call about a woman being abused.
During the investigation, police discovered the man was upset the woman had sex with another man and "wanted to teach her a lesson."
One of the more brutal attacks described was a sexual assault with a baseball bat. What happened during that particular incident was not divulged in court.
The accused faces numerous serious charge, including sexual assault with a weapon, assault, forcible confinement and threats.
The man also poured boiling water on the woman's back, burned her hair off to her scalp with a lighter, hit her with a bat, punched her in the eye when she didn't fetch the TV remote, and threatened her with death.
After his arrest, the man gave a long statement to police and said he planned to kill the woman by drowning her in a bathtub. "
