"Man who dialed 911 with toe 'doing OK'
With his arms stuck in machinery, firefighters say worker used his big toe to call for help
A man who used his big toe to call for help after his arms got trapped in an industrial machine was out of a hospital Friday night.
“We’re just so grateful he’s doing OK,” said Rich Goldberg, spokesman for the man’s employer, Parsippany, N.J.-based defense technology supplier DRS Technologies. Goldberg cited company policy in withholding the man’s name.
Goldberg did say the man was not a new hire.
Firefighters say even they don’t know his name. His accident happened at about 2 a.m. Thursday, and rescuers who woke up for the call initially had trouble gaining access to the secure building on Anchors Street in Fort Walton Beach’s Commerce and Technology Park. By the time they got inside, they say they were focused on freeing the man and getting him to a hospital.
He had called for help the only way he could: By using his big toe to dial 911 on a cell phone, Ocean-City Wright Fire Capt. Terry Kline said on the day of the rescue. "
