Recently, somebody posted a link to an article in the Sun about a video shot in Mexico purporting to show a flying humanoid.
I have been in the UFO field for so long that I have heard just about every description there ever was… And that one was no exception. I had read about sightings of flying humanoids in the bulletins of several European UFO research groups back in the seventies and eighties. So I was curious to find out if the Mexican sighting and film were an isolated incident. The Sun article did appear to imply other similar events.
Within a few minutes I found a page on Rense.com describing a series of similar sightings and videos in Mexico over the course of several years beginning in 2000.

How bizarre, I thought. There was such variety of shape, yet all seemed to suggest a humanoid form… Well, except that last one (in the Sun article). But the video accompanying the Sun article did not feel right anyway. The form was moving in a straight trajectory and there was something about its movement that reminded me very much of the movement of a hot air balloon…
But the other images on the Rense.com page looked more like humanoids. Yet there was something else that bothered me there: Some of the videographers knew each other. I had to see more of those videos. The first one I found was what I thought would be the most intriguing one – that of Horacio Roquet. The observer had described it (in the Rense article) as a tall threatening figure that carried a device emitting light with a red glow…”
When I found the actual video, all I saw was some form drifting about in the air. Nothing menacing about it. So I decided to look for more videos. I would look for the one by Ana Luisa Cid. Well, I found a video by her but with the name “Globo di Corazon”. Well, “globo” means “balloon”, right ? Why was she showing a video of a balloon ? I was soon to find out. The first surprise was how clear that video was compared to all the blurry ones that purported to show “flying humanoids”. It was also clear that the general shape and movement of the object was pretty much the same as in the other videos. But it was also obvious that, as the title implied, it was a cluster of heart shaped balloons !!! Yet, it looked and behaved like the “humanoids” in those other videos – other than the fact that this one was sharp and made identification easy.

What a letdown ! Those oh-so-mysterious flying humanoids that “defied explanation for so many years” were nothing more than stray mylar balloons. But what about the humanoid shape ? The witnesses did describe arms and legs and those do show in many of the videos… Well, yes. Just take a trip to your local party store and you’ll see them. Human-shaped mylar balloons are so common they even have a name: “air walkers” ! (Google “mylar air walker” and you’ll see what I mean.)

Anyone who has been to Mexico knows that Mexicans have a long-standing love affair with balloons. There are many balloon manufacturers over there and there are balloons and balloon vendors everywhere. It is then no surprise that many such helium-filled balloons go astray and end up riding the sky where they become flying humanoids in the overactive imaginations of many.
I went back to the Rense.com page and looked again at the cap from the Horacio Roquet video. That menacing red light-emitting device suddenly looked more familiar. It was a red heart-shaped mylar balloon ! And that “light emission” was simply the sun reflecting off the balloon’s metallic surface.
It’s amazing what one’s imagination can do to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary !
The purpose of this post is to encourage all who are faced with something they cannot explain not to draw their conclusions too rapidly. Whether you are faced with a real unexplained phenomena or looking at a picture or reading a sighting report, keep in mind that perception and interpretation can make all the difference in the world. The sad truth is that the more boring and mundane explanation is usually the correct one…
Never believe what (you think) you see…
And don’t program yourself to see what you wish to see…
P.S.: Rock Slinger’s description of his “UFO abduction” is such a perfect example of this.
