Spore, a game some of you might know, but for those that don't, you should give this a read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spore_game. From the creator of the Sims series, Will Wright, is bringing another game out of the forge. A brief summary of the game is that it is based on evolution from a little creature you start at a cellular level, in which you gobble up other organisms and eventually become large enough and you become a land creature, from there you basically move from a land creature in a group, to a tribe, civilization, then you get to create a UFO to populate other worlds. Why do you ask it is on this part of the forum? mainly because of the evolution part and the option in the game to create your own religion and convert other creatures to it. Just showing you all that if you want to try it out, its coming out on September 7th and the creature demo, which allows to make your own creature, is coming out 17th June. This game will give you the option to interact with evolution and using religion for personal or beneficial gain.

Actually, this game is an example of intelligent design not evolution. The creatures do not change over time in response to environmental changes, they are actively changed and modified by the player.

Well technically it's still evolution, but by intelligent selection instead of natural selection. And it still goes along with some of the rules of evolution, in that you can't make a creature incapable of surviving then expect it to not be killed.

Indeed. It's an example of how intelligent design and evolution are easily combined.

Well more its a video game, you can easily combine many things in a video game.
However Cradle is right it is intelligent selection not intelligent design.

Well, depending how the game is made, I can argue that it is evolution by natural selection... If its the game environment that influences the species' evolution, then no its not intelligent design... Its not the player controling it, the player is simply controling the characters as if he were one of them.

Also I think it should be pointed out that since the game is being made by EA there is likely to be very little that is intelligent about it. grin2.gif

This is EA, they'll release it unfinished because release dates are more important than quality to them and then it work on the 10th patch, but then they'll ruin it again on the 11th patch.

Spore has about as much to do with evolution as The Sims has to do with genetics.

That means nothing about its gaming potential. It looks AWESOME and I've been looking forward to it for over a year now! Something tells me the open-end sandbox space mode will be a major time waster, as will be just making all kinds of crazy creatures... I hope I can get my work done next year!!!

I've been waiting for this game for a while now too.It looks awsome grin2.gif As much as i love killing, guts, battles, guns, swords, knifes, axes, blood, gore, ninjas, robots, and giant man-eating demon octopi, I've been searching for a game like this, where you just sit down and design a creature from scratch. It'll be fun to 'play god' happy.gif

I may have heard something about a Wii version of Spore, it would be watered down version and not the full PC version. PS2 couldn't handle it.

Who are owned by EA and have a marked decline in the quality of their product since EA's purchase (I know my gf plays sims and has noticed the decline).

Hmmm.....i think Spore will be better than any other game Maxis or EA has made yet simply because of it's extreme open-ended gameplay. There is virtually no limit to what you can do.Not only is there the creature editor, which in itself has too many combinations of appendages, body shapes, eyes, mouths, wings, feet, hands, spines, weapons, ears, skins, colors, etc. for anybody to imagine(not to mention all the different ways you can stretch, rotate, and shape those body parts),but also the utterly vast amount of randomly generated environments, planets, galaxies, and universes for you to explore. This means with every creature you create, every species story, you will never get the same universe, the same planets, the same game.Never.That,is what will make Spore so epically awesome. thumbsup.gif

Plus, you can make a race of chapstick-headed bird monkeys that live in giant toilets grin2.gif grin2.gif grin2.gif You gotta love a game that will let you do that.

since the sims, Will Wrights involvement in the Sims has declined, the Sims 3 will have no WW because hes busy on Spore

well, theres only one galaxy, which is the spore logo, but dont think... aww only one galaxy? this will involve over half a million stars, each of these stars indicates there is a solar system, on average, there are 5 planets each solar system, well over 1 million planets overall. Our solar system is hidden somewhere in the galaxy also, mars, earth, neptune etc can be terraformed or destroyed!

Well, even with only one galaxy, the possibilities are still virtually limitless.I love games like that.
