"Too Fat To Toddle - Fat kids
Tuesday, 6 May 2008

Obesity is big news. Health Secretary Alan Johnson has described the problem as "the most significant public and personal health challenge facing our society."

The government is instigating several action plans to tackle the problem.

One in four pre-school children is obese and, with eight out of ten obese children growing into obese adults, things need to change.

Too Fat To Toddle focuses on four families with overweight children, to see if this problem can be nipped in the bud before it's too late.

With the help of Professor Paul Gately and his team of experts from Leeds Metropolitan University, Too Fat To Toddle embarks on a brand new initiative – the first ever fat camp for under fives.

At this camp there will be no faddy diets or gimmicky methods of losing weight on offer – just common sense advice about eating less and moving more.

Prof Gately's studies have shown that obesity is almost always a result of diet and lifestyle and he hopes to teach these families that by working together and making simple changes, they can turn their children's lives around. "

If you instill these good habits from a very young age, they'll be completely normal for the kid.

I wonder though, are the parents attending the camp with their kids? Afterall, they are providing the food...

What a shame that families have to have outsiders teach them the nutritional values for a child...Most toddlers are chunky, but with growth lose their "baby fat"...I would be more concerned if my child was 7 or 8 and was overweight...My granddaughter is almost 5, a little chunky, but as she's growing she's thinning out...And believe me, if she has the choice of homemade chocolate chip cookies, or fresh veggies, she's going to go for the cookies original.gif...Teaching a child t eat right should go under common sense...

Hey you can't go to MickyD's, BurgerKing, Diary Queen and eat every day. Parents feed kids this crap daily. I blame the parent for the poor eating habits. You know the old saying Monkey see Monkey do.

crying.gif Well you see these kids on the Maury povitch show here in the States once in a while.
Yes, it is th eparents fault for not feeding the kids proper food because they are too lazy to cook nutrious meals for the kids.
Also, they feed cows and other animals that are raised for food hormones, antibiotics and other things, and this may also play a fact with them too and not just over eating. It would be interesting to go into the family medical histories of some of these families and if they had any other relatives who were very fat as toddlers.

All of this is so sad.
