" Lincolnshire man is going under the knife after hiccuping non-stop for 15 months - nearly 10 million times.
Christopher Sands, 24, and a professional singer, hiccups as often as once every two seconds for up to 12 hours a day - sometimes while he sleeps.
He estimates he has hiccuped at least 9,828,000 times since he was first struck down with the mystery condition in February 2007.
He says he has tried every known cure, from eating honey whilst hanging upside down to sitting in a compression chamber.
But he will now undergo keyhole surgery after doctors diagnosed a damaged stomach valve which is causing an acid reflux condition, resulting in chronic heartburn and hiccups.
Mr Sands, from Lincoln, said: "I'm pinning all my hopes on this operation. I want my life back.
"I'm losing my mind. I can hardly eat or sleep. I can't socialise. I can't work and it's next to impossible to make music."
Mr Sands suffered his first bout of hiccups in September 2006.
They lasted a full two weeks before suddenly vanishing.
He thought nothing more of it until they came back with a vengeance in February 2007 - and stayed for good.
He estimates he hiccups once every two seconds for 12 hours a day - a staggering 1,800 hiccups an hour, 21,600 hiccups a day, nearly 7.9million a year and 9.8million over the last 15 months. "
