Hi! I'm a brand new poster, and I joined this board to see if I could get some help with an experience I had as a child.
When I was 3 years old, my family moved into a new house. It was brand new - the builders were putting the final touches on it as we moved in. The family was stable. My parents still had a good relationship at the time, no one had died recently, we hadn't moved far - just down a few streets to a new subdivision.
Once we settled in, I started visiting the big mirror in my parent's bathroom. It spanned the whole wall. I would climb up onto the counter top and look in. A girl started to visit me. She was older than I was, had lighter hair. I don't remember much more in a way of physical description. But she came from the mirror and would actually come out of the mirror. I don't know what we did, but I wasn't afraid of her. I looked forward to seeing her. She wouldn't come every day, but I would check just to make sure. When I was about 6, she stopped coming. I went on with my childhood, and I forgot about her. But I had developed a fear of mirrors, especially the one in my bedroom. I was terrified of it - scared that someone was watching me. But for some reason, I still loved my parent's bathroom mirror. I would go in every day - literally, every day I would go in and see that mirror. I didn't even think about it. Even now, if I'm at home, I'll go see that mirror.
I could chalk this up to being a dream, but it doesn't feel like a dream. I can remember several recurring dreams from childhood and thats exactly how I remember them - as recurring dreams. This I recall as a memory, as something that happened and had a profound effect on my childhood.
I will add that as a young child, around this same time, I used to talk to my mother in detail about my past life - something I can't remember doing now, but she remembers. I throw this in there because I don't believe what I experienced was a haunting. I feel the two incidents may be related.
As an adult, I haven't had any paranormal experiences. I believe in the paranormal, but I haven't seen any spirits in mirrors or anywhere else. I can feel energy, and whenever I sense I'm in a situation that may call for protection, I ask for it.

I can't help you either, but this is a really good story. It may have been a residential ghost that decided to move on, which might explain why she left so unexpectedly.

Maybe this mirror image child was a past life ghost trying to tell you something.

Finally i believe that this girl may have been you. A reflection of yourself. Either from another life or another part of yourself. Or maybe she was a real imaginary friend instead of just imaginary.

Great story. I've heard and experienced quite a few different things in my past before, but this one is new to me. Although it does bring back my childhood fascination with mirrors. I vaguely remember thinking there was someone through the mirror watching me, but don't remember ever actually seeing anyone.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I was hoping that maybe my experience was something others had experienced as well, since mirrors do play a significant role in the paranormal.
My instincts tell me that it was not a residential ghost, but something connected to myself. As I said in the original post, the house was brand new when my family moved in, and we're the only family to have ever lived there. There were no homes built on this land prior - it had been used for orange groves before development.
My theory is similar to Ghost Ship's - I believe that it may have been my spirit guide coming to visit me. I am part Native American, of the Choctaw tribe, and several psychics have told me that my great grandmother guides me and visited me in spirit form when I was a child.

This could be your dissociated self. Children before the age of 6 can dissociate their personalities into different parts, if this continues or is due to childhood trauma this will lead to the development of multiple identity disorder, a real medical condition. When your mind dissociate it can see different parts of itself and they all look different and have different characteristics as well. After the age of 6, the brain matures enough to prevent such dissociation from happening.

The website was very interesting, and it's certainly a possibility. But I've never had any traumatic experiences that would have led to dissociation, and it just doesn't fit, to be honest with you. But it's an interesting take and of course, anything is possible.

I know there are a lot of superstitions surrounding mirrors they are said to hold One thousand souls and one should be careful when buying an antique one I have had different feelings on this subject but I follow my grandmas advice and cover a big on when not being used so one "can see" from the other side, in the paranormal business we advise it best to bless the mirors to bind whatever sprites are in there, The old don't break a mirror for 7 years bad luck thing, there is a reason for all suppersitions. As far as a past life and I think you are saying you may have thought you were talking to a past sprite of your self? not possiable the sprite of you had been reborn in you. I guess you were talking to another one trapped in there...
