Well if we think of it this way, a rumor usually starts out because of a fact. So we cannot think it so simple.

That is really not true spork. Rumours very rarely come from fact. Most come from ignorance or malice.

Yes but that reason is usually a misinterpretation of medical data combined with rumour.

Almost undoubtedly, yes. Especially anything that's been propagated since the 1800's for god's sake.

I think that the story of a vampire is very plausible. Because there is usually a reason to the mythological creatures.

So are the Easter Bunny, Santa,& ToothFairy then they plausible too. About as real a vampires.

The fact is interpreted by humans, who are prone to error.

For instance.

Lets say you were the first person to consider wood on this planet. Nobody had seen it before, your discovery, and you are like all of us - learning. So you come up with a hypothesis as to what this strange object is comprised of. A sensible thing to do would be to look around you, see what elements exist, and maybe go from there.

It burns, takes a little encouragement, but it is there, just hard to bring out, so one could surmise the element of fire is tightly packed into this new thing.
It floats, fire needs air. Only sensible to assume air is another component.
One can draw oils from wood - a liquid substance, so it makes sense that some water makes up part of this substance
Earth? It seems to grow in earth, the soil grows poorer as more trees grow, so it must eat from the elements of soil. Soil must be part of it's basic makeup.
So if we mix together som soil, fire, water and air, we should have a piece of wood right?

So, observation would lead me to believe that wood is made from the 4 basic elements. I can even demonstrate why I think so. A microscope will offer quite a different analysis.

For this case, I think that its more of ignorance than malice if at all.

i think i agree what QUESTIONMARK posted. " Vampires are proved to exist" on May 10 2008, 01:07 PM

But i wonder, the number of "Old World Monsters"(i would like to limit this word to supernatural creatures which are humanoid sharing the the traits of feeding on humans) with the habbit of preying on humans; blood, flesh, organs; is remarkable. I will not say that their floklore is universal since i wont be able to support this claim, but i will say that this lore spans globally. could this all account to porphyria? if so then were would this common trait of preying fit in?

In the Phillippines, which is miles away from by hometown of roanoke, where im teaching now at a unversity and have spent 2 years of my life has a similiar "old World Monster" that i am currently privately studying. the locals call it Aswang. Base on the local folklore and books (which are all supernatural books and non academic which i cant cite as a reliable source due to its nature, these books only tell stories as to what they seem to be and incidents that are claimed to be connected too Aswangs and cannot be used as a basis for solid ground for a supporting resource) these shares the same animosity of eastern floklore vampires esp in feeding and diet. but it seems that this is were the similarity ends.

Oh yes. But the theory sounds very real indeed
EtuMalku
Well, they do exist. But not in the Folklore / Mythological / Hollywood archetypes that so many on this forum cannot seem to get past.
snuffypuffer
So what form do they exist in?

I do love me some good pravda laughs, it reminds me of the Weekly World News, if it were written by middle schoolers who call themselves "paranormal investigators".

I do sincerely hope you are not referencing "psychic" vampires. That is like the red-headed step child of paranormal monsters, which I personally think were invented by goth middle schoolers who thought it would be easier to claim to be a psychic vampire than a traditional, since they can provide no evidence that either exist, much less that they are one. They wouldn't be able to get away with claiming to be blod drinkers, so they decidd that they would absorb energy instead rolleyes.gif. Of course it is all just fantasy anyways, yet thats my theory about the origin of the idea, at least on common modern practice.

people who think they need or like to drink blood. people who have a hightened sensitivity so sun. people who are allergic to garlic.
thats my guess

Where as true vampires are energy manipulators not all energy manipulators are true vampires.
A vampire's Chakra / Shen centers are damaged as a result of their awakening.
The big difference between true vampires and the rest is that the human soul is destroyed and in it's place the vampiric soul is created. Their physical anatomy slightly changes to accommodate prana use while their subtle body changes drastically to accommodate it.

Wow, so, first of all, how can a chakra become "damaged"? Chakras are mental manifestations, not physical ones. And why is the soul destroyed? Can you prove that souls even exist? I don't think anybody has a soul, but I don't think that they are "deformed" because of it. Lastly, how bloody many kinds of these "energy manipulators" are there then?

Again, Eric, it's a matter of belief, plain and simple. Being as the actual proof of such a being is virtually impossible to prove physically.

One side says they believe it beacuse they live that way, the other side saying "prove it". They can't prove it, so it's a waste of time and energy(no pun intended) to ask them to.

You have to admit, EtuMalku, that no matter how you debate it, what it comes down to is you steadfastly believing in something and wanting those who don't understand or subscribe to the same beliefs, buy into it solely beacuse you say so. Your asking someone who dosen't believe to have faith in YOUR belief, and in turn, belief in YOU. Your not gonna get that on the net, unless someone WANTS to believe you.
Incorrigible1
There's a certain symmetry, here. Dragons have DC, vampires have EtuMalku.
EtuMalku
Indeed, I expect it.
Eric? I don't expect you to believe anything, I know better LOL!
I have no problem putting this to bed, but every time some one asks me about vampirism and I reply am I going to get a barrage of . . . 'no way dude!"

I believe that unevolved vampires can be just Psi vamps and just have damaged Chakras, but as you incarnate over and over you evolve closer to a true vampire.

youre serious?

or do you mean you evolve closer to a vamp, by having your skin become more sensitive to light? becoming more allergic to garlic? feeling the strange need/craving for blood for some messed up reason? while sitll being a normal human being?
that what you mean?
EtuMalku
I give up, nobody really reads what I post.
Yeah, the Undead. No image in the mirror, fanged blood suckers. They even float instead of walk, very cool. If sunlight touches them they burst into flames, what a mess.

Hahahaha, awesome thread. I gotta say, I've gotten a good laugh.

I can see how this medical condition could have helped spark vampire mythology, evolving into that hollywood image we associate with the name.

As far as people drinking blood to gain immortality or even drawing energy from someone's soul... leave those folks to Blade. (although he may be a little preoccupied fighting tax evasion charges atm wink2.gif laugh.gif )

The human body can not digest rare blood in large amounts. We will vomit it all up. Medical fact. There are want to be vampires. That bite or get bitten for sexual pleasure (sort of freakie to me)and drink blood but you never hear about the vomitting part. .

Actually wolfknight in China there's something called "Raw blood soup" which is basically raw duck blood straight out of some poor fowl mellow.gif

Saying 'proved' is quite misleading as there is no 100% PROOF...however a very interesting read, and not hard to believe, thanks.

I think wolfknight maybe meant that humans cannot consume blood on a regular basis in the amounts it would take to completely support a life form, although the Masai occasionally drink the blood of cattle for celebratory purposes it is still mixed with milk and is not done often.
