Okay, so I just remembered about a show or something I watched about this towel or shroud or cloak or something or other having Christ's face in it, or his body, can't quite remember. Was that real? I never really was a religious person, only been to church once as a baby, to get baptised, and again when I went to a christian school. But I was pretty dumb back then and now. I was wondering into all the different religions with an interest. To see if there was one I could believe...We have a number of churches around where I live, I was thinking of visiting one or two to see what all the fuss was about. now I'm not atheist, I choose not to believe just yet. But in time, perhaps.

What you're thinking of is what is known as the Shroud of Turin. I think it has universally been disproved as being Jesus, but whether it's a hoax or just some other random crucified guy, I don't have a great deal of info on. Just look around at the facts, and make up your own mind on it. All the best thumbsup.gif

Just have a look around, there's plenty of information out there to explore.

Yeah, that was it. That thing thanks.

The Shroud of Turin, the Spear of Destiny, the Crown of Thorns, and the Holy Grail among other artifacts are all claimed to have power. To a simple believer though even if they do exist they would only have historical value and nothing else. The true power is the Spirit which has the power to transform if we allow it to dwell within us. It is magical and for one who has never felt the magic would disagree for there are many who can go to church for years and never feel it.

It is my understanding that the Shroud of Turin, though controversial, has not actually been proven to be a fake. Quite some time ago, I watched a documentary about it on the History Channel, and they noted that their could likely have been flaws to the original radiocarbon dating that placed its origin in the middle ages, due to the fact that there was some type of substance on it (I can't remember what), a contaminent, which made dating it virtually impossible. These scientists claimed that every time you date it, because of this agent, you would come up with a DIFFERENT date. So who can say for sure?

There are ancient ties that a shroud, at least at one time did exist. Gervase of Tilbury told a story that has been circulated since the time of Jesus. It was about King Abgar of Edessa who wanted Jesus to visit him and cure him. Jesus is reported to have said, “If indeed you desire to see my physical appearance, I send you a cloth on which the image not only of my face but of my entire body has been preserved.” Other accounts claim that Jesus declined the visit but sent someone in place of him, for it was close to the hour of his death. After Jesus died, the disciple Thaddaeus, following the order of the Apostle Thomas, is believed to have taken the shroud, folded so that just the face is shown, to Edessa and showed it to the king, curing him of his ills. At his recovery, he made the city a Christian city. Historical evidence shows that Edessa converted to Christianity in 57 AD; which means SOMETHING pretty significant must have happened here, to spark this abrupt conversion. It is also highly likely that this was not a seperate cloth as originally thought, but the actual burial shroud folded down.

Is it the real thing? Difficult to say. Whatever the case, the Shroud mystery is a very compelling one. But Christ crucified is a matter of faith, and I absolutely believe in the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. I'd love it if there was irrefutable proof of this event, but in no way do I need it. I just believe....

Yes its real, all of father;s miracles get picked apart , scrutinised untill they are just a scientific myth.

Most miracles only have a shelf life of about 6 Mos, some longer Most less.

There is also another cloth which is siad to have just covered the face of Christ, which is known to have existed back to at least (I think) the 4th Century. It is in a Spannish Cathedral - Oviedo I think. Strangely enough the blood on the face cloth is of the same blood group as the blood stains on the Turin shroud.

Might the OP also be thinking of the "true image" of Christ's face in blood and sweat supposedly obtained by St. Veronica when she offered a cloth to Christ on his way to Golgotha?

But it's imperative to recognize that the name "Veronica" (Ver-Icon) itself merely means "true image."

Cool I did not know Veronica meant that.

It is well worth noting also that the story has a unknwn woman offering the cloth to Jesus and as time went on and the legend grew ,they gradually made a name for her from the words ver -icon has you stated and so St Veronica was created
