Just finished watching the original John Carpenter's "The Fog" (the remake was terrible!). Even now almost 30 years after it was filmed (1980!) it's still scares!!!
Few even knew the word "paranormal" back then. But looking at it now there are several accurate elements of the paranormal in it.
The fog itself can be related to a paranormal mist, perhaps even ecto.
The glowing lights that represent the ghosts can be like the glowing orbs sometimes reported.
The fog damaged electrical devices much like electrical interference is often reported today.
Dramatic temperature and air pressure drops occured when the fog approached.
I'm reasonably sure Carpenter didn't put all these things in because of an interest in the paranormal. But the parallels are curious at the least!

You no they are coming out with a remake of the Birds (2009) and I do hope they do not screw that one up as well, I am not sure of what movies did turn out better than the original, the only one I like both the original and the remake of was the The Thing, I liked both…I will have to watch the original of the fog again, I just don’t recall it…Pavot

Yeah, that was a damn good movie. Some of John Carpenter's works are true horror classics, that, the Thing, Halloween....great stuff. The original WAS really eerie; not the cheap slasher thrills we are bombarded with today.

That's for sure! They were movies that scared us, not grossed us out. I didn't watch the newer version, they shouldn't fool with the great oldies. Doesn't anyone in Hollywood have any imagination for new movies? Why are they constantly remaking them?

I loved the orginal.
I thought it was very good.
Really scared me, too. I won't go out in thick fog anymore!

I remember liking the original, at the time, although if I watched it now..I'd probably think it was a pile of crap.

Whats sadder then that is they are remakeing "the creature from the black lagoon." Its a sad time in Hollyweird when they have to do remakes.

On a wide screen TV, alone in the dark it will
still scare the willies out of you!
Jamie Lee was
hot in that film!

Really? Wow. Hope it's good. The original was also very feaky. It was the music, like in the fog. The sound/music had the movie.

All they will do is load it down with weak Teeny bobber stars with a second rate script.

one of the few remakes that was done that I really enjoy was Invasion of the Body Snatchers in the late 70's. with Donald Sutherland. now that was creepy. The remake ( the 3rd one) was a horrible waste .
I would love to see HP Lovecraft's From Beyond remade , but I really like the original and am afraid it won't have that same creepy factor.

Agreed. That movie started out as a sci-fi thriller and ended up nearly a porno!

H.P. Lovecraft is great. There are a number of stories of his i'd love to see as movies. the only problem is most script writers can't carry over the feel of the story to the film. Most of the Lovecraft films turn out bad. I can only think of 2 that were good. IMO

Carpenter's a freaking legend years ahead of his time & modest. Bit that always pissed me off, every time he made a movie the 'critics' in
Hollowhead Hollywood bagged it in their reviews. Don't think he ever got a good review/accolades or even a simple award for his achievements. Guess it comes with being an 'independent' master of horror/sci-fi film making & not Hollywood hierarchy ass licker,
butt we know who got the last laugh eh -->
(Holloween) Halloween/
*The Thing/Escape From New York/Prince Of Darkness/The Fog/
*They Live <--
*maaan hope he does remakes.
