Recently, an expert provided these two theories:

People who die and become evil spirits don't realize they have done so. Their anger, desire for revenge, or other strong emotions keep them trapped on the Earth plane. They may realize they have a chance to move on, but don't for various reasons.

The other theory is that some evil spirits may be just a thought form, or spiritual layer, of the person who died. The soul may have already moved on to the 'other plane'.


Any insights on which one would be the closest to truth?

I'm not exactly convinced that there actually are spirits. While I am a recreational ghost hunter (its more of a fun thing than a serious thing) I certainly have not been convinced that there are any spiritual entities like ghosts or angels or demons. For now I suspend my judgment indefinitely on whether they exist or not.

As for your theory? ::shrugs:: Might as well be. Even if there are ghosts, its not like we actually understand what they are or how they operate, so your guess is as good as any other. I suppose it makes sense. While some "ghosts" can be classified as poltergeists or other pesky phenomena, a lot of the stories that I've heard have the ghost as sort of unaware of a human presence, as if they are either unaware of the fact that they are dead or are merely a sort of 'spiritual imprint' left upon this world. But like I said, I'm not exactly convinced that ghosts exist, so...

another possibility is that the person that supposably became a ghost was previously possessed by demons and then after they died the demon not wanting to report back to his boss decided to stay and pretend he was still possessing that person. of course knowing everything about that person and all the things associated could help the demon to trick people into thinking its that person. I think this could happen some of the time but not all of the time.

I've always thought of spirits in the terms of energy. Positive AND negative energy co-exists in every fiber of the universe. We humans here on Earth are not exempt from this cosmic blueprint.

To extrapolate positive and negative energies into good and evil, this layout doesn't seem to be out of the realm of possibility. Where as when a human dies their energy , weather positive or negative, continues on in the nature in which it existed.

The question really is what stipulates the charge of your energy and what can a person do to maintain positive energy and what can a person do to reduce negative energy.
