I have been having strange dreams of being chased by an unseen ghost for about a year now. I get these dreams once or twice a week on average. I figured it was from watching too many horror movies or my subconscious telling me something , it very well could be, but as I have been getting more dreams, I feel it may be something else. I usually don't remember much of my dreams by the next day but I do remember a lot of details of these particular dreams and I thought it was worth mentioning. There are three themes to these ghost dreams and I usually get some variations but the feeling is always the same, real terror that makes me cry out in my sleep (according to my hubby) and I sometimes wake up crying or screaming. This fear so SO real, not like any of my other dreams, and I have had some bad dreams like my kids dying etc. this feeling of fear is so much stronger. Its the same feeling I would get if I was being haunted in real life. The three usual themes for my ghost dreams are:
1. most frequent dream....I have moved into a new house, its usually large and red with a stairway and a balcony type hall with a railing that runs along the upper half of the house but sometimes the house is white. Its always the upstairs that is haunted. I end up walking upstairs alone and then I remember, this place is haunted or I get a weird feeling. Sometimes I try to sleep in that room, other times I walk to a tall closet with oak doors. I never see the ghost but I know its there and I try to get out of the house but never can. I spend my whole dream which feels like forever, running from the unseen ghost. The fear I feel is so real.
2. I am outside in the dark and I run all night. I can never outrun the ghost. Sometimes this is a continuation of the first dream if I actually did get out of the house.
3. I am in a basement or dark room and I move toward the darker corner. I look down at my sweater and see its being drawn towards the wall. Then I feel myself being pulled into the wall and I struggle. I end up being chased both indoors and outdoors and I must avoid the darkness and stay in the light (like a bad movie lol). I try to find flashlights and safe places. I sometimes have a crowd of people with me that I must lead to safety. I never see the ghost but "he" feels real.
I know its the same ghost in all the dreams even though I don't see it. I think its a large man, my brain just tells me that in my dream, its hard to explain. I guess my point is, can a ghost haunt a person through their dreams but not appear in waking hours. I have not really had any paranormal experiences in this house. Two years ago at christmas, my battery operated Santa with long dead batteries, like dead from last year, turned on by itself three times in one evening. My dog growled at it with hair on end, not normal for her. That was freaky, but nothing since. I don't usually share my dreams with people so please don't tear me apart and say I am loony. I am just looking for some honest opinions. thanks in advance

Hi Married Chick, OMG Those sound like some frightening nightmares. I have never heard of a haunting based in the dream state. Our dreams are symbolic of what goes thru our minds and brains all day. The one thing you did mention is the "Feeling" and that is sheer terror and fear. You are also aware the predator is a male, yet you dont see him. Your details are pretty amazing, for sure. I have no idea because I dont know you, however I feel its one of maybe 3 things going on. Number one, which you dont have to answer here, is it possible that you suffered some form of trauma as a child? Number #2 would be that you have one unresolved issue that is causing these night terrors, and number #3 would be previous life issues surfacing at night. Those are the only 3 reasons I can think of for that type of being chased type dream. It could be an issue that is suppressed, so maybe keep a journal of these dreams and try to sort them out. Have you ever been thru a haunting now or as a child? JN

No, I don't think I have ever been haunted except the one time i explained at christmas and I did try a ouiji board once on halloween in this place last year, bad idea I know, will never do it again even though it didnt move, I have felt a little weird about the basement since then. I cant think of any men that hurt me or any trama regarding a man. I was raised my my father, my mom was not around but he was a pretty good dad. I will try keeping a journal like you suggested. tI have kind of had a messed up life at the hands of my mom. Perhaps she is the male in my dream, who knows. Thanks for your reply.

Ouija board....yes, very bad for sure. That could be a possible source for the low life spirit that is tormenting you through your dreams. I am not sure why it selected dreams, though. Possibly as the dream is the gateway to the subconscious. I hope you end this, because as we all know, a Ghost is a bother, especially large male ones. Probably a dead convict....

It is possible I suppose that your Dad is the one saving you, and its actually your Mother that is scaring you, if that makes sense? JN

Hi there,
How comfortable are you in your faith?
Can you Lucid dream and try to manipulate it?
If so, turn and face it...do not be afraid of it if your faith is with you..Your BIG brother willstand beside you and help you fight. All you need to do is ask.
Before you go to sleep, say a prayer and ask either your guardian to be there to protect you "in the naame of the Lord" or ask the Lord to send you protection from this entity....usually they are small timers that toy with us..nothing major. Your lucky...
Do the prayer thing..it will work...Just mean it!!! do it every night and face your fear...as long as you run, it has control and wins... it cant hurt you, but you can make it stop.
Let me know... Blessings honey!

sounds like what lot of people are saying is what i think as well.
The dreams like JN talked about could be from a traumatic experience as a young child that has caught up to you, or you subconciously, or conciously fear something and it's following you in your dreams and your dreams are trying to tell you something, often thats what a lot of dreams are, you dream of something that you have in the back of your head, often it's something your not even thinking of.
The wierd feeling, (something here i need to do too), could be caused by high fields of EMF (Electro-Magnetic Fields) that often cause someone to feel nausceous, ill, creeped out or paranoid.
If you continue to have these dreams i'd seek a psychiatrist for help to see what they could help you make of your dreams, you know? if it's unexplainable it could be something such as a Poltergeist haunting.

I have dreams very similar to this on occasion (I bet most people do at one point or another) - I often dream of visiting a large dilapidated house that has ghosts or zombies in it that try to scare or kill me.
I just call them nightmares and forget about them, and on occasion ENJOY them - it's like watching a horror movie. As I've gotten older, I've learned to recognize and control them a little - hence being able to enjoy them.
Don't let them bug you - they're just dreams. People are quick to jump to the paranormal for explanations around here - sure, it could be past trauma or your subconscious trying to tell you something, but sometimes your brain just likes to scare the crap out of you for no good reason.

thats what i said above too its possible that it's a dream caused by a thought in the back of ones head that they often dont think about. i may still be in high school but i've talked with friends bout dreams, the mind and lucid dreaming, the people i talk to are ones who have taken Psychology.

Thanks everyone. I think its probably my subconscious trying to sort things out. I have tried lucid dreaming to control the situation but not results yet. Sometimes I so realize in my dream that I am asleep but I still can't control what is happening. Hopefully with time I will be able to control it better

I had a similar dream for a long time. It stopped when I turned round and smacked the creature chasing me

I never seem to have control in my dreams, or nightmares.
Also, I can forget my dream between the time I wake up and reaching for a pen to write it down.
Married Chick, I do hope you figure it out and get some relief.

Try to recognize the ghost that is chasing you....
Running alone, denotes that you will have a higher position in social life making your friends filled with Envy.
Old and ramshackle houses, symbolizes declining health or excessive disappointment. This dream is of a new house...
It is fortunate that* you never seen the closet door fall off its hinges. Quite evil…
Dreaming of Ghosts is not good. Are you hiding something?
Let’s hope that the Ghost will not speak to you in your dreams. Yea.., dreaming of ghosts in all aspects is not good at all. Although, in the one dream that you were going through walls a few times. It denotes that you will be fine or, whatever plight that you might have,..you will be ok. Dreams prognosticates the future.
I had a dream of God one late evening on (Sept 14, 1997 11:13pm) and I had became a Atheist, …changes in belief.
