What do you think about it, do you think they could get it up and running properly in our time. It would save the world from humans and would power our homes in the near future.

Not it's not dangerous like nuclear fission, it creates a lot of enery, not mass amounts of radiation, so sorry it will not make a better bomb

Yes, I think so. There are already several experimental plasma tokamaks in operation.

They are huge magnetic machines for confining fusion reactions, which have been sustained for a few seconds, and only at about 65% of input power.

I would like to think it would be within our lifetimes, but who knows. New Scientist claimed that at full commercial use is between 50 (very optimistic) and 100 years away.

I'd like to see Fission make a comeback, myself.

A couple years ago I read in Sci Am about new ways to recycle old spent fuel into new fuel for fission reactors that are smaller, cheaper and more efficient than the ones we operate today.

The author stated an estimate of something like 50 or 60 years before we'd even need to process any uranium ore - that's how much of our spent fuel we could be getting rid of in these new reactors.

The result of recycling the fuel is more than a 60% (IIRC) reduction in the amount of spent fuel we'd eventually have to store, and we'd be able to, several times, recycle the fuel from these newer reactors into more fuel as well.

Also, the unusable waste turns out to be far less radioactive and over a much shorter timespan than the waste we are currently gnashing our teeth over.

If we ever want to get the petroleum monkey off our backs, this is the way we will have to do it.

It won't happen any other way.

You can't run automobiles on gasoline in the future. Whatta we got? Wind? Solar?

Not gonna happen.

The obvious thing is electricity. Plug in at night, unplug and drive in the morning.

I agree with "Harte" . It's my understanding that deposits of Hydrogen-3 found on the Moon may make fusion a foreseeable idea. Thou transportation costs will be a real problem I think! wink2.gif

I think fussion is a viable entity,clean,SAFER THAN FISSION,Renewable,Now radiation all though I read that it generates a enormous amount neutrons dont really know if it is dangerous to the human body.Wat I see is the only problem is the heat and todays metals just cant take that heat over a period off time. sleep.gif

Another thing.(Correct me if I am wrong)Fussion is maybe ten times or more efficient than fission.

Also has anyone heard of the pebble-bed fission reactor.Scientists say that that is the safest reactor for fission.Overheating reactor automatically shuts down.Damage to reactor vessel reaction stops plus the coolant is normal compressed nitrogen gas.The supper heated gas can also be used.It is channeled to another production plant for Hydrogen production.

As for the Hydrogen for the reactor.Use specially made solar panels to generate electricity for electrolysis = hydrogen + oxygen followed by H3 separation.The solar panels supper heating water that generates stream powering turbines.

All in All I think good clean energy thumbsup.gif .

i prefer cold fusion. Physicists wouldn't like the idea though
