Ok I am i the process of writting a piece on Tennessee and or the South's Folks,Tall tales and such and I am looking for information on what i have heard called The Wampus cat or Wampus witch? I have heard 2 versions: something about a Idian girl learing the Magic by secretly watching the Idian shamans and they cught her and cursed her to stay in he form of the cat forever. the other version is a young girl who pracitce witchcraft would steal babies because she couldnt have any of her on. the towns people caught her in "mid" transformation (from hunman to cat) and shot her. she didnt died but because she had been wont in the transfornmation process she could never return to human form.

Does anyone out there have any information on this subject If so I am very interested in learning more. Thanks

I always thought a wampus cat was a big cat that was in the swamps. Was mainly a myth. I believe it was a big cat the was suppose to be a hybid. We just called them swamps cats.

Feigning ignorance doesn't excuse poor behavior.

Jeez Incorrigible, you are such a boy scout when you gonna give a guy a break? (Topher Grace, Spiderman 3)

But seriously calm down man, it was a mistake.

I half agree w/ both parties. But it seriously is ignorance to *not* know caps locks is "shouting", and is ususally inexcusable. Unless you are 13 years of age and new to the forum experience.

True, some WampusCats are 6-legged cats. try this link for more info on Wampus Cats.

I like how the example picture is of my old school. original.gif Yes, the six-legged Wampus Cat does infact serve as a mascot for the Conway School District. I have never heard of any other Wampus Cat though...

Conway has a big blue statue of the six legged cat, and inside the East Campus, there's a painting of the mascot climbing out of the wall.

One should realize that in all of the fossil pre-history record, no amphibians, reptiles, or mammals have ever sported six legs. Now carry on.

You realize when the caps lock button is on and you type really fast, not knowing it's on then send it without reading over you are going to end up with a mostly capitolized sentence, right?

As for Wampus cats, never heard of 'em. I live in Tennessee, though not in the swamped areas, and this is all new to me. As for the Bell Witch however...

I've lived in Tennessee for about 11 years... but I've never heard this story. The Japanese have a similar myth, and I'm sure there are several versions of it all over the world.
