Full Version: What's the machine called?

Shadow Huntress
I've just had a mind blank, and was wondering if anyone could tell me the name of the machine that measures brainwave activity (like a lie detecter rig)
If anyone knew where I could find a cheap one- cheap being under a thousand (or could tell me how to make one) that would be brilliant.

I have a brilliant experiment that I'm pretty sure will work, on the brain activity of flora. No one steal my idea! ~laughs.

An MRI scans brain activity and an EEG scans brainwaves.

You can get bsic EEGs for about £1000 and while an MRI scanner would run into the £10,000s.

EEGs work by:

QUOTE
measuring summated activity of post-synaptic currents. An action potential in a pre-synaptic axon causes the release of neurotransmitter into the synapse. The neurotransmitter diffuses across the synaptic cleft and binds to receptors in a post-synaptic dendrite. The activity of many types of receptors results in a flow of ions into or out of the dendrite. This results in compensatory currents in the extracellular space. It is these extracellular currents which are responsible for the generation of EEG voltages. The EEG is not sensitive to axonal action potentials.

So unless this makes any sense to you (which I doubt given the fact that you think that flora have brains) I don't think you'd be able to build one, no.

Brain activity of flora? Where is the brain located?

I was a little concerned you were thinking about getting one of these machines for brain activity measuring until I realised I had left the Extra terrestrial forum.... wink2.gif

Not the same at all, not least of all because EEGs work and have actual uses.

Brain activity of flora? Supposing they had brains, what exactly would they think about?

What would a Plant think about?
Pollination of course! wink2.gif

I think you are talking about an electroencephalograph (eeg). There are a couple on ebay. The cheapest one is $399.00

Hot. Careful, this is a family forum. tongue.gif

I KNOW plants don't have brains, I'm talking about the neurological activity that I want to test is active in flora.

But thankyou for trying to make me look the fool.

Plants don't have neurological systems.

Plants don't have nerves either.

You're not doing such a bad job yourself.

In defense of Shadow Huntress it has been shown that ALL life gives off a Kirlian aurora. I am not sure how this is shown, but that would be a start to any science testing.

Hope this is helpful.
