Rofl talk radio to counter mainstream? Yeah right, the corporate spectrum has its hands all over talk radio to, INCLUDING alex jones and the like, thats the point.
The corporate spectrum has it's hands all over lots of things....they run businesses, they sponsor programming...they pay for advertising...both sides of the fence. What's wrong with that? It has nothing to do whatsoever with the point.
Talk radio is counter to the mainstream media. In fact, it's about the only counter to it in existence. really.
It's successful, and dominated by people like Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck (#1, #2, and #3) for a reason...the mainstream cannot compete with them in that medium.
Further, the attempts to re-institute the "fairness" doctrine" (a.k.a. the "give opposing viewpoints equal time as a matter of law so we can counteract and hopefully shut up the common sense spewed by the evil right wing talk radio act") are a clear indicator that this form of media is in no way mainstream.
And of course, there was the completely comical attempt by Harry Reid...
Senate Majority Leader (

), to utilize the power of the U.S. Government (last year) to
silence Rush Limbaugh...
a private citizen, mind you, in a classic case of abuse of power...
Further indication that you're all wet as pertains to talk radio being mainstream.
You never see such a thing concerning "Air America" or people like Ed Schultz or Al Franken (Franken got himself off the air by himself, and Air America has been an abject failure since its inception).(It was indeed comical to watch Limbaugh make a fool out of Reid in impeccable, brilliant and comical fashion on the nation's #1 rated radio show, however (and raise millions of dollars for a worthy cause at the same time), as well as watching Reid succumb to it...on the floor of the U.S. Senate (one majority leader out of a job next time around...).
