BUCHAREST, Romania - A couple of bears caused quite a stir Thursday in the central Romanian city of Brasov.

The mother bear and her young cub were first spotted wandering through gardens and breaking fences in search of food in the downtown area.

Traffic was stopped for about two hours as a rescue team tried coax the animals back to the wilderness.

Officials finally decided to tranquilize the mother with a dart gun after the duo climbed the stairs of a four-storey building and made their way onto the roof.

Once she was asleep, the rescue team removed the mother and cub from the roof and took them to a local zoo.

Officials say both animals will be sent to a nearby bear reserve.

"The bear cub was very small and could not keep up with its mum, and she did not want to go back to the forest without it," said Flavius Barbulescu, head of the animal protection service.

That is great. They just shoot the bears here, they say it costs too much to move them and that they will just come back. It's nice to see that some people actually do care about the animals.

Aww, a mother's instinct, not leaving her cub The few stories I've read here about bears, has always said they tranquilized them, then moved them to their enviornment...Seems to happen mostly when people are camping...

I wish I could tranquilize people I thought were in the wrong place....
