about a year ago, when i was twelve, i used to have very bad headaches. well, one day, when i had gotten to the point where i couldn't bare to move hardly for hours at a time because they hurt so bad, i just told myself "I'm not going to have these headaches anymore" and so i just laid there with my eyes closed, and pictured my headache, and all the bad feelings flowing out of me. its hard to explain, and i guarantee at least half of you will call me crazy or something, but all i want is to share my experience, and see if others can confirm or discredit it, or share similar ones. another thing, my little sister started having bad headaches too, and sometimes i would have her lay down and put her head on my lap, and i would just talk to her for a while and concentrate on her headache. sometimes it was like i could almost feel her pain, literally. sometimes we'd sit there for an hour and get no results, and other times her headache would be gone in 15-25 minutes.

well, whether you think I'm crazy not, I'd love to hear from you, as always. don't hesitate to share anything.

George Goodman, wriitng under the pseudonym Adam Smith, included in his book Powers of Mind what he called "The Great Central Phillipine Headache Cure."

The basic idea is that you turn your attention to the pain, feeling it without resisting it. Of course, if you are paying a lot of attention to an internal sensation, then that pretty much forces you to restrict your activity for the duration.

A passive mental disposition with a single focus, combined with restricted physical activity, is pretty much the usual formula for inducing the physiological state called the relaxation response.

It is somewhat effective, but not as reliable as aspirin, in my experience. Please note that I do not suffer from migranes, and I have no information about this technique with that kind of headache.

Modern medicine uses techniques just as you have described for pain control. Studies have shown people can lower their blood pressure, their heart rate, and assist in pain control. Calling it psychic would not be far-fetched. . .

Yes the act of using the power of the mind or will for physical well being is not new however the investigation into how all that works does fall into this vast subject of the psychic.

Anyone who uses the mind to alter physical reality is doing something, that I would say, is in that category.

Edgar Cayce said 'mind is the builder'. This is common mind over matter really, it can be done, I totally believe it. There have been a few times when I was getting sick, started getting symptoms, and I'd tell myself 'no I'm not getting sick' and I would imagine myself in perfect health as normal, same as you w/ the headaches. It did work a few times. Others, it didn't.

It's possible, I suppose. I just stick with extra-strength tylenol, though. Mostly because when my headaches hit, I can't concentrate on anything, pain included.
