In your opinion, what are the most beautifully animated films you have ever seen? Spirited Away, Belleville Rendez-Vous, Ratatouille and Beauty and the Beast get my vote.

I have Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.
They are both beautiful to me and much better than a work of art that does not move.

Howl's Moving Castle
Affliction
Spirited Away was the first thing that popped into my head as soon as I read the topic title!

I've seen Spirited Away...not too impressed.

I like Anastasia. Excellent animation.

Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 are pretty cool...

Spirited Away as great! That Final Fantasy: Advent Children, While not great with the terrible dubbing, had great animation...

Fantasia definitely

Pretty much any animation by Disney using the 'old school' frame by frame full animation can't be compared to computer animation of today.

Just to think that each frame of the old Disney animations were hand drawn is just plain incredible.

I also dig the animation that Monty Python used. Yellow Submarine was another of my favorites as was American Pop.

Virtually anything by Hayao Miyazaki deserves to be on the list. From those, Princess Mononoke takes the top spot for me grin2.gif

Besides those, here are some of my picks:

1- Snow White: yeah, I know that by today's standards it might seem a bit crude, bu
it after reading about the making of the movie in "Walt Disney" by Neal Gabler (great read btw), I've got a whole new respect for it. The care, the love, that was put in that movie is astonishing yes.gif
2- The Secret of NIMH: the animation is the thing that sold me on this one.
3- Beauty and the Beast: The "date" scene is worthy enough to be on the list
4- Rattatouille
5- All Dogs go to Heaven

That's all I can think of- for now tongue.gif. I think Wall-E might enter this list. The trailer is really really good grin2.gif

Check out Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, a lot of people say its the best anime ever.
Also Ralph Bakshi's Wizards, although I hear Wizards isnt his best work.
Ninja Scroll, in my opinion, is the best animated film ever. And another good animated film is Waking Life, though its probably too much for some people and I dont know if its necessarily animated.

I agree with the point about Disney. Honestly, some of the sequels to Disney classics out there (Pochahontas 2, The Little Mermaid " in particular) - there's just no love in them if you know what I mean because the stories and animation are so shoddy. You get the feeling they're just there to make money.

Oh, and the Monty Python animation rules too!

I saw the trailer for that too! Looking forward to that big-time! Personally, I think Pixar animation is just getting better and better.

Thanks to everyone who's posted on this so far - there have been some really good posts!

The Barbie Fairytopia and Fairytale movies. For magic though take your pick between Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, and Sailor Moon Super S movies.

The first anime I ever saw was Project A-Ko so will always have a fondness for that.
Tia
I like Mulan.
Red-eye Dragoon
Check out the movie Paprika. I found it to be very beautifully animated.
I think that the original Ghost in the Shell movie was also very well done, especially for when it was made. Bet you can't tell what was CG and what was meticulously drawn.

I should add that ***holic: A Midsummer Night's Dream is also an amazingly well animated movie. Like Ghost in the Shell, the studio that produced it was Production IG.

The *s in the tittle are 3 X's that were blocked out by the censor, and no the movie is not an adult feature.
Ghost Ship
The Secret of NIHM was the most beautifully animated film i believe.
Atheist God
Heavy Metal and Fritz the Cat are the best animated features ever.
sbradj
Rikki Tikki Tavi (not sure it its spelled right) would have to be my most favorite animation of all times. I think it was one of the first ones I remember seeing as a child. I still watch it. you cant leave out Bambi, it was very nicely done. if you ever get to see the story behind the story its amazing how much work they put into it. I love Pixar, their great!!! Toy Story 1 and II was nicely done, along with nemo and Cars! great animations IMO.
Callum-Da-Grouch
I think The Hunchback of Notre Dame has beautiful animation!!
Carcharoth
Porco Rosso and Final Fantasy: Advent Children (although it was CGI, not animation..).
Breakbeat
princess mononoke..

I agree wholeheartedly. Love old Disney.

I just can't warm up to anime. I think because the faces are too stylized...they all look the same with those creepy big round eyes and pointy noses. Funny that Asians make their facial features so western-looking. Why is that?

I have to say, as far as cartoons go, you can't beat the original Bugs Bunny. They hold a warm place in my heart--not only for the animation, but the clever dialogue and superb music (I just loved the opera one..."I killed da wabbit....I killed da wabbit....") Wagner must have been giggling in his grave.
