http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Trends/...how/3038556.cms"Washington: The spectacles that you wear can make you a hot property among boys, says a study.
Time to rewrite the old saying about boys not making passes at girls who wear glasses. They well may - and vice versa.
According to a new study that points to changing societal perceptions, kids who wear glasses were rated as “cooler” than those who didn't - a far cry from days when those wearing glasses was seen as nerdy, or even ugly.
The Ohio State University study involved children aged between 6 and 10 who were otherwise oblivious of the looks or attractiveness of their specs-wearing peers, their potential as a friend or their athletic abilities.
Eighty young children - 42 girls and 38 boys - were surveyed. Of those, 30 kids (38 percent) wore glasses, 34 had at least one sibling with glasses and almost two-thirds had at least one parent who wore glasses.
Presented with photos of a child with and another without glasses, the participants were asked which of the two they would rather play with; looked smarter; looked better at playing sports; was better looking; looked more shy; and looked more honest.
Most thought kids with glasses looked smarter than those without. They also felt kids wearing glasses looked more honest. "

As a kid I thought my dad's glasses were so cool for some reason and always hoped that I could have some of my own. I have no clue why... I needed them by 2nd grade.
Now I wear contacts... didn't take me long to grow out of that

One of my friends kept complaining about having to wear glasses (bit silly as i have to as well) so i told her just not to wear them and see how stupid she looks walking into a tree or under a bus. She didn't wear them and walked straight into her low garden wall and of course fell over the top of it. She started wearing them the next day.

Maybe this is because glasses look less stupid now. They are more sleek and small.

Being blond and err.. curvy, I always wanted to wear glasses. People do not take me seriusly, they always say things like she's so sweet (you know the tone) or dumb blond. . .
I always thought glasses would make me seem smart- ha ha ! talk about being a poser right !:P

My glasses got me the nick-name Velma in highschool, after the chick from Scooby Doo. I also basically did my hair like that. I love my glasses, and I always got attention from guys, but I always figured it was cuz I was a hott-eh.

I disagree. Never is not never. Just unlikely. But in this case, its likely.

As Wootloops and Moonie already mentioned glasses were not as stylish back in the days of coke bottle lenses. They have an infinitely number of stylish frames and lenses now days. The whole emo phase of fashion too might be a part of the popularity as well.

NEVER.
You may think you look cool with your super-myopic inch-think lenses that make your eyes look three times bigger than they really are, but you don't.
People laugh at glasses like that. Maybe they fixed it so lenses don't have to be that thick anymore, I don't know; but when I wore glasses years ago they were thick as hell, and stupid looking to boot.

I do agree that people seem to look smarter and more honest with glasses.

Probably one of the reasons why I have such a weakness for a guy in glasses.

They just look more sophisticated and innocent, or something. ;P I know that's completely biased and not true on all cases

, but it's just the way they look to me.

I've worn glasses since the 4th grade (far sighted as a child is SO not fair! LOL, now I have lovely tri-focals.. and I'm only 41!)
I hear a lot from guys "Oh, I like that librarian look you got goin' on!" I'm never sure whether to be offended or flattered. LOL.
I'm not wearing my specs in my profile picture for some reason, I must have been holding them in my hand. I take my glasses off several times a day because I have nerve damage in the bridge of my nose and after a few hours, my face starts to go numb. LOL.
As far as extra thick glasses go... they're mostly all pretty thin these days. The vast majority of glasses are plastic lenses now, whereas years ago they were actually ground and polished glass. Even if someone has thick glasses these days, you're not likely to notice because of all the cool frames that hide thickness and plastic lens technology which isn't as heavy or thick as glass.
