You know what else kind of ticked me off a bit was that they used the K2 meter. If anyone listens to Beyond Reality all the say is negative things about it. They proclaim on there radio show how anything can give off EMF readings and then on the show they use it as if it is some type of detection/communication device, its all a bunch of BS.

Why would the network or TAPS even consider faking anything when the show is doing so well?

There are some things they do that are questionable but I think the majority of the questionable things they are doing could be stemming just from human error or an honest mistake? Just because TAPS are the #1 Paranormal show on TV doesn't mean they are the perfect team in our field. Even a great team like TAPS can make mistakes. I still have a huge amount of respect for them as they have done so many great things for our field. My respect grows bigger each day. If weren't for TAPS, do you think our field would be where it is today?

My point is, why not sit and enjoy the show, but do yourself a favor and realize that it IS just a show, so there is a good chance that there is fiction involved. Continue to admire the way they "debunk" things and appear to be rational and sceptical and all that good stuff. And then realize that it IS a show, and that networks do many things to keep their ratings up.

Just continue to realize this.

Amazing Point, and even though we know it’s staged and rehearsed there are people, lots of people who believe wrestling is real.

I don't know whether they fake everything, but they do alter things. My father told me about someone he knew who was on an older episode of the show. His sister was doing the investigation with them, and at one point she ran out of the room screaming. She said she saw a mouse, but on the show they made it seem like she saw a ghost. Unfortunately, I don't know what episode this was. There's bound to be true things, fake things, and things altered or omitted. It is a program for television meant to entertain and generate revenue, not to provided truth.

My ex used to call wrestling a soap opera for men. Maybe GH is a soap opera for ghost enthusiasts?

I take pride in knowing I didn’t get into the paranormal because of TAPS. I am not saying you or anyone else on this board has, but the only thing so far that I see TAPS doing for our field is having a bunch of kids that don’t know anything about the paranormal running around trying to scare each other and ruining it for some people that really care about this field and have a passion for it. I credit that to TAPS and all the other “Ghosthunting shows on TV. Just because they show evidence on television and I stress the word TELEVISION that can’t be seen anywhere else unless you buy there DVD seasons and pick it apart (still not being able to hear the raw audio files and footage uncut) doesn’t mean a thing to me, sorry this is how I honestly feel.

I actually got involved well before I even knew who TAPS was. When their show finally came on I was kinda excited knowing that this could make it more acceptible which it has...but as for groups idolozing TAPS, wtf.

Don't get me wrong I enjoy the show, and I respect the team but I really don't know why TAPS is UP THERE and the world is DOWN HERE.

I have more things to worry about locally than what a team is doing nationally.

It would be cool if they did release the uncut footage and raw audio files, but then again, how do we know they are uncut, raw, or even outright fakes? Sadly, the only way to know about what they really find is to be there yourself

What? They arent even #1 show on Sci Fi, Battlestar Gallactica is. I believe that there are PI teams out there that have been doing a great job, way before TAPS..I honestly dont see that TAPS or any show changes the field, but more so brings the paranormal for public viewing, and nothing more. Of course they make mistakes, they are human, but I dont believe any other teams set their standards from them, and would hope they have their own. MasterPo, Noah, Black Swamp etc seem to be their own people and do a good job without being influenced by TAPS..Every reality show fakes things and brings in drama and why, for the ratings? Funny thing is, the first reality show was COPS, and its still going strong, but other police depts dont idolize the cops on that show, because its sheer entertainment, just like TAPS. I think we have to be realistic and understand its television, and anything goes, to increase ratings..JMO......JN

I really must find a few episodes of TAPS because until this thread I had no idea who they were. But if it's anything like any other paranormal shows I have seen. It will be a bunch of people with absolutely no idea what they are doing pretending to be experts. The one that really gets me is when something actually does start happening the peolpe in these shows scream and run away or the camara is pointed at them all the time so you don't see anything or even worse they just constantly babble so you can't hear anything either lol

I guess I will have to try and catch a show or two. I suspect I will be dissapointed.

I would say TAPS has influenced paranormal research positively. Just by making it more accessible to the mainstream, getting more people interested in conducting serious minded investigations, making people more open to having their own houses investigated etc, it has helped. It's very true, of course, that it has also resulted in a lot of idiot kids running around cemeteries snapping pictures thinking they are "investigators," and all that nonsense. But I really believe the good has outweighed the bad in a lot of ways.

If everyone would stop concentrating on TV shows and concentrate on their work I think it would give our field a better rep...?

Well as far as the average viewer is concerned, I dont think it makes a difference. Some of my friends like it, others wont watch it cause "they never find anything." When I get my hair and nails done, they rave about PRS, because to them its interesting. I have watched Most Haunted for years, but I just watch it cause I love to see the castles, and amazing dwellings in the UK, and I respect David Wells. I also watch "A Haunting" and sad to see its canceled. We look at things differently cause we love the paranormal. But when it comes to the every day Joe, some will watch some will not, and people that have problems in their home, might realize there is help out there. Some folks I know, Google Paranormal Investigators in their area, and some never watched TAPS or GHI. I would think a credible team would know how to debunk, and what to look for and listen to, even without TAPS. I dont think its healthy to idolize anyone on TV, or take everything they do, as if God himself did or said it. I personally dont care what Josh says, even though I like him, he is not God either. Lets face it Matt, if Gene Simmons can have his own show, thats gotta tell you something about reality TV and what some choose to watch..JN

I think its real funny how the tables have turned here... in the beginning I had a 50/50 love/hate relationship for TAPS and everyone would get on my case for picking out the negative aspect of Ghost Hunters. Now all of a sudden 4 seasons later, and that more shows are on TV people want me to stop praising TAPS? LMAO!

ALL Investigators need to concentrate on their own work versus worrying about TV shows period! We need to improve ourselves before we can judge others.
