"Queen is fuming over the fact that she appears in more than a dozen photos snapped at a grandson's wedding as part of a big-money exclusive deal with that most unroyal, tawdry gossip magazine, Hello!

The queen's ire comes after protests from pundits that the royal family has sold out to the celeb rag. London's Daily Mail reports that Hello! devoted 59 pages to Saturday's Windsor Castle wedding of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly. The magazine reportedly paid the royal couple $1 million for exclusive access to the event.

Ken Wharfe, a former royal bodyguard, said: "It will be very difficult for the royal family to argue their right to privacy after appearing in [the magazine] ... and the queen's grandson collecting a huge sum of money in the process."

Buckingham Palace says it has "no comment."

It seems like her job is to act as a symbol of her culture. She can't be a symbol if no one sees her.

The queen has a very unusual life. But it's similar to everyone else's life in that she has to play the cards she's been dealt. Obviously, there are a lot of advantages to being royal. Lots of attention, lots of money, gorgeous places to live that you don't have to work to own, etc., etc. But there's also a downside-- you don't get to have any privacy. Is it fair? No. But growing up in a palace isn't fair either. So grit your teeth and bear it Queen Elizabeth.

I must admit, I don't understand the whole royalty/nobility thing. I'd love it if one of the Brit's here could explain it. Do people in the U.K. still see people with titles as "different"? If so, why?
