Not many things scare me in life but one weird fear or anxiety I have is about coming into contact with an extraterrestrial or being abducted. I have had a reoccurring dream for many years, (about once a year) about seeing a "grey" alien looking at me through my window or doorway. and I cant move and the only hope I have is for my wife to wake me up. This I know is the typical night terror, but why aliens? Any ideas?

I feel ( and i speak from experience) that you have in fact been in the presence of a alien life form. If in your dream you remain in your bed, i feel that you have not been abducted.
DCAT

I cant quite explain the terror I feel during one of the experiences, but I dont feel difficulty breathing or anything like that, I have had a normal childhood, nothing bad or anything, and I have watched my fare share of sci-fi, the dream sort of resembles the scene from Communion where Walken knows they're coming but can do nothing to stop them.

It could always be sleep paralysis coupled with hallucinations you sometimes get before sleep. Does it happen before you go to sleep? Or a very bad nightmare. You could also put flour outside the window and check for footprints in the morn. tongue.gif

If you do get abducted I demand pics of implant scars!

It happens while I am asleep. i was thinking it was a bad nightmare but its strange that it is always the same thing. But it doesnt happen that often so I dont think the powder by the window be very practical. I will definitely post something if i get any weird scars.

I think that in the grand scheme of things you were abducted and taken to the space between spaces, which explains the parasynaptical anomalies to what has happened. If i were you I would wear a foil hat to bed so that if the extraterrestrial life forms do come they will be unable to read your mind!!!! GODSPEED.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I've suffered sleep paralysis, and it is terrifying, so I sympathise. I didn't hallucinate though, my eyes were closed, but I "sensed" a presence. I think it's more psychological that paranormal.

If it troubles you that much, then tell your Doctor about it. If it seems like a nightmare, it could have been something that imprinted on your subconscious. Maybe a film or something you saw when you were young, but don't remember. Or, the way dreams work, it could be symbolic of something in you subconcious. Or if it's sleep paralysis, i'm sure a doctor could maybe prescribe some sleeping tablets or something.

Im not really into taking pills it doesnt happen that often its just scary though. I think it might be related to all the movies i watch, but why the fear of aliens (is that just a fear of the unknown or uncertainty..... who knows) Does anyone else have weird reoccurring dreams?

I feel for you. No, you are not asleep or dreaming. They like to check up on "us" once in a while. Do you ever get the feeling that if you open the blinds or open the door, you will come in contact with "one"? Almost like something in your head telling you instinctively to do it? Go with the flow. It gets easier.

I have no idea why aliens, except that apparently it is something you think about in waking life, so it's not a surprise that it would show up in dreams.

Just to sort a few things out, "night terror" is not a nightmare. Night terror is a formally coded sleep disorder. It is not typically accompanied by "narrative" dreams, and is not a "rapid eye movement" (REM) sleep phenomenon.

If you were reporting night terrors, then the only right advice would be to tell you to see a healthcare professional. But you aren't. You're describing a nightmare.

As to the paralysis thing, well, you're supposed to be paralyzed. That's normal for REM sleep. A dream element which refers to your actual physical situation is sometimes called "dream incorporation." It is also possible that you wake up partially, and are having proper "sleep paralysis" (funny name, since you aren't asleep if that's what it is; on the bright side, you're probably not fully paralyzed, either).

If it bothers you, or you feel that it interferes with functioning, then go to a healthcare professional. If not, then if it happens again, you might try to move small body parts: eyelids, fingers, toes. "Click your heels and you're back in Kansas" really just might work.

Like I have always said you need to sleep with a foil cap on your head as so they cannot read your mind or take control over you. They last thing you want is to be abducted and have then proobing you with all sorts of wired instruments and gamma radiation!!! when all else fail you can always call the FBI and talk to someone like Agent Mulder which i am sure there is.

maybe its sleep induced insomnia caused by large doses of caffeine which is very common in the United States. causing your brain to function in strange ways.

Go for it, Orcseeker, I'd be interested to hear. Did your reoccurring dream just finally stop, or did you do anything to prevent it?

well, I didnt do anything to prevent it or stop it, it just simply stopped, well, it was similar in the fact that it either had my father in it or not. It lasts only a few seconds. Ok, here goes:
The one with my dad in it has him laughing, then he suddenly turns into some devil thing with flames behind him and the devil is laughing maniacally, at the time I didnt really have an understanding of devils but it seemed so real I hid under the blankets after waking up. The other one just starts with the devil laughing. I knew it wasnt real because the one with my father was in a totally different place not me bedroom. Yeah, though it may not sound scary, you really gotta be in it to well, experience the scaryness so to speak.

I constabntly have this weird feeling that if i open a blind or door the first thing I'll see is the stereotypical hollywood big-eye, oval-head green man. If aliens do constact mew, i hope they will give me adequate warning...like...i don't know, decide to appear in daytime...or somewhat...not pop out my window and then say "do not be afraid".. What the hell is the point of giving you a heartattack and THEN saying don't be afraid.
That is weird, but recurring dreams...that is common. Have you ever had big phobia or aliens that remind you of subconciousness. I had sleep paralysis once...or at least i think it was. i had a terrible dream where a weird orange spider was put on me and i couldn't deflect it. It was quiet odd. Maybe i was abducted by aliens and as they probed me, my mind saw what i feared most held by a person i trust. I doubt i was abducted though...lol...

i honestly dont think you're even having night terrors, just regular nightmares. i as a child had severe nightterrors, and i never remembered a single thing when i woke up, not once. you on the other hand remember several things. but your incident still fascinates me..

"If an alien appears in your dream, this suggests feeling og being an outsider in a group or society. It may also represent something ner and not previously experienced. In some cases, the alien may symbolize a meeting with an aspect of yourself that has great potentioal."

The Element Encyclopedia of 20,000 Dreams. Theresa Cheung.

On a personal note. I too am terrified of the thought of aliens. I know the reasoning though. When I was small my parents took me to see E.T. and it terrified me. So much so I had horrible nightmares for years. The kind of nightmare that you open your eyes, sit up, wake up and STILL see the nightmare. Then when I was 11 they took me to see Fire in the Sky. That too gave me nightmares. I do not think I have ever encountered an alien (I have encountered other things) but I know my fear if irrational. Still the thought of Aliens makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
