Well, today I bought Anno 1701 for my computer. I installed it, and there seemed nothing wrong. I started the game everything worked well, but the graphics looked like crap. The menu graphics and the cut scene you get look awesome, but the in-game graphics look like a 1998 crap game. And that's definetly not the way it should be, because it came out in 2006, and it's prequel Anno 1503 literally looked 10x better then this one does. I know 100% sure there's something wrong, because on in-game screenshots and youtube videos it looks awesome and way different then it does now. At first I thought it was my computer, but it looked the same on my parents computer which is better than mine.

It's really annoying, because I don't know how to fix it. I allready installed Directx, and tried to put the graphics in the game menu on it's maximum, but the graphics don't improve at all and it only makes it slower. Does anyone have a clue what it could be, and what I can do about it?

Thank you very much in advance.

Try upgrading your graphic card?
Promethius
maybe theres an in-game 'adjust graphics detail' option or something like that which is set too low.

Yeah I guess that could be it. I first thought it was Vista, but my parents have XP and it looked just as sh**ty on their computer.

There is, and I set it to the best performence, but it doesn't improve one bit and it only gets slower.

Increase the details, but not the anti-aliasing (turn off the anti-aliasing if it's possible)

Asteroth what DirectX do you have installed?

Some games will not run on DX9....I don't do the gaming bit but still have DX10 installed.

Do you have all the right drivers installed?
EXAMPLE: I have a Nvidia card and had to get the drivers from their website....microsoft's drivers worked but not that well.

Did you check to see if your computer met all of the games system requirements?

Great Suggestions. reason your graphics could be so bad, maybe your system cant run it. First check the system requirements, if your system meets all those. Check out what vidcard your system has then go to That cards websit and check for updates. like zandore posted. also its really good to always go to the source to get Their updates.

also here is an excellant site that has bout every question I've needed answered dealing with gamin or computer problems in general if you cant find your answer post your question. XtremeSystems

Thank you very much for all the input. My computer doesn't meet the requirements for the game, and since I play on my Ps 3 way more, I don't think I'm going to buy a new videocard. Changing the graphics in the game didn't help one bit, and the right DirectX is provided by the game dics itself and is installed together with the game, so it's not that. I'm very positive now that it's my laptop, because it's not exactly the best laptop out there. Too bad about the game though, but luckily it was only 10 euros, so no biggy there.

Once again thanks for the suggestions!
