I'm not sure exactly what channel it's on. I want to say Discovery Times or something like that. But the premise is basically this: Two female "psychics" work with the police to solve cold cases using their "abilities." The cops only give them so much info, the rest they are suppose to visualize. Sometimes they get an object from the crime scene to hold and get impressions from.

Seems like they're almost always able to come up with the info the police already have...but never seem to produce any solid leads that result in any arrests.

Hmm, I wonder why that is?
Shankpin
That's similar to one that was on Court TV.. ghost whisperers (?) or something like that.. They'd use psychics to attempt to solve old case files (murders)...

I don't remember that one. Was it crap too?
Shankpin
ahh. The guy medium was gorgous, but other than that, I wasn't impressed-
Blind Atrocity
Eh, I know of Rescue Mediums, on WE. It involved two women who got premonitions then went to see if they could possibly find the site of a person's remains.
Shankpin
They found the guy in the woods, the dog found them or something like that or another.. There are so many of these types of shows, it's hard to keep up.

Missed that one. Oh well. I think its kinda funny that I hate these damn shows but end up watching them at any available opportunity. I'm such a sucker for mindless entertainment.

Yeah I've seen all 3 shows ya'll are talking about.
The court tv one was called "Haunting Evidence."

I'd watch them for a little while, and then move on
to some other show.

Haunting Evidence, that's it!

Yeah, I guess I'll watch them from time to time for the entertainment value of it. How the psychics seem to be able to affirm all the clues the real investigators already have, but always seem to fail in coming up with solid new leads that produce anything. Hmmm.

I don't think that's quite true. I've seen them absolutely insist on suspects that had already been cleared or describe people who were unlike the current suspect profile. I've seen them sit down with a sketch artist and the resulting sketch turns out looking just like the guy they finally catch-- only at the time, the cops don't even have a suspect. They get a lot of spectacular hits like this.

Of course, we have no idea how many misses they also get. So we can't really evaluate how accurate they are, or if they even score above chance.

Then again, the detectives usually seem pretty darned convinced. And homicide detectives aren't generally known as a bunch of fuzzy-headed New Agers. So that's impressive, although it isn't conclusive by any means.

It is true that the psychics never solve the case. No matter what tips they give, it's the detectives who have to solve it.

Anyway... when you say "I wonder why that is," what do you suspect is going on?
