Insiders have been quietly leaking information in regards of future contracts that effectively will spell the end of the Internet as we know it. Namely what will happen is a multi-tiered system which will in effect allow you to see mainstream sites for a lower fee - and access to smaller distant and private sites will have an additional charge. This deliberate lopsiding of the internet will cause a literal shutdown of alternative media as far as having an equal voice.

I have actually read the government is trying to find a way to tax internet usage, especially by taxing every email that is sent (somewhat like a electronic postage stamp)
Slave2Fate

Why is this happening? The entire media and marketing industry is losing its grip on the upcoming generations of Internet-minded consumers. Statistics show that traditional media is losing popularity as the Internet continues to grow drastically every year. And the Internet is a completely different place: consumers aren't passive any more and advertisements don't have the same psychological effect they normally have on television. Internet users are very active and focused: they only go to the sites and services they want, and with an infinite amount of alternatives, users simply switch to something else if one service becomes too commercialized with annoying advertisements. With this in mind, it's no surprise that the past 6 years the industry has secretly been planning a 'take-over' to secure the Internet as a purely commercial playground.

Oh dear....oh dear....is the internet in it's present form too good to be true????

Will the World Wide Web become the World Wide Rip Off ?? (censorship?)

And there's THAT year again.....the real possibility that the internet can be totally spoilt is DEPRESSING... sad.gif

the "internet' isnt owned by a perticular government or any group for that matter. But if someone does this, i would become a terrorist aimed at the people that did it.

yes, yes once upon a time the radio airwaves were something like the net in where many people were able to freely use it to communicate but the FCC was born...net neutrality is the most under recognized cause of the new millennium for all that is at stake but so few people are aware of the consequences of potential government regulation towards it. no longer will people to be able to freely release content but it will all be sponsored by the government and other media entities.
Star-Struck
Heh, I will laugh at this if it happens; the many hackers out there that will circumvent such a system and then tell the world; and the internet will be eventually free once again! laugh.gif grin2.gif grin2.gif grin2.gif

Virgin Media (a top UK internet service provider) Neil Berkett CEO of Virgin media, has openly stated in an interview that they think net neutrality is “a load of b******s” and claimed they're already doing deals to deliver some people’s content faster than others. They would then put websites and services that don't pay Virgin in the "slow lane", meaning those sites would load slowly and cause most users to give up using them, feeling forced to use whatever Virgin wants to push through their network.

In April 2008 Acting CEO Neil Berkett sparked controversy when he told "Television", a magazine published by the Royal Television Society, “this net neutrality thing is a load of b******s.” According to the journalist, he claimed that any video content provider that refused to pay Virgin Media a premium for faster access would have to get stuck in “bus lanes,” having their content delivered to end users at much slower speeds than that of paying content providers

Ya, Virgin won't be well received by their peers or customers if they're going to start down throttling bandwidth for premium content like video.

Net Neutrality has some heavy hitters behind it, heavy hitters who don't like to lose and generally DON'T lose.

In support of Net Neutrality.. oh you know, little companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Ebay, Yahoo!, YouTube...

Thank’s for sharing this nice link.

I don't know much about computers but if this happens couldn't we like a second internet or use service providers that are not based in places that have these regulations? Or something?

Orcseeker
well, in OZ, we get charged to the amount of accessing all websites right now if this even happens anyway.
Orcseeker
I guess these people haven't thought of being their own ISP

What do you mean? Do you mean download quotas? It's not exactly the same thing.

I've never heard of any I.S.P in Aus charging per website access...

Sure you can be your own ISP. If you're rich enough to have your own expensive infrastructure. Or you can buy from the major suppliers in bulk...

They have been talking about this for the last 13 years maybe longer. I say 13 because I remember people talking about it when I was in Jr High when AOL 3.0 came out.

Im saying our normal internet usage is high enough to have all the websites in the world avaliable to us if this is true.
Orcseeker
Honestly, I think this is BS and if you look at the uploader of this footage, I think you can get the idea that it is not true.

If the government really does impose this "tax" or even try to ban p2p service, I would seriously consider joining a terrorist organization to fight against them.

Who's to say that they're not going to do with the Internet what they did with cable television though? Cable television, in its infancy was NO COMMERCIALS. That's one of the biggest things that was most appealing about it. It wasn't long though before commercials were there and soon after everywhere, to the tune of seeing more commercials than the television you were paying for to not see commercials! It was only a matter of time before the government(s) saw an opportunity to make money off of the Internet too. It happens whenever they believe they're not getting their cut. We're doomed. Leopards don't change their spots. It's more than likely going to happen. Our meneal premiums we pay monthly to have Internet isn't enough and they want more. They'll get it.
