I heard from a friend (This is not a i heard from a friend of a friend of mine) That studies have shown that if you dont Hear,See,Say or do anything for 8 hours you will go insane i wanna know the unvirsety or college or lab that did this research and how it was excuted.
Ausaria
I couldn't find anything through google. It sounds a little too vague and far-fetched.

I've heard if you watched the Weather Channel for 48 hours straight you'd go insane, but that's just because it's a boring channel, haha.

Living amongst yellow-painted walls has, in some studies, caused the inhabitant to go insane. That's all I've got for ya.

Sorry. 'Tain't so. Check out Dr. John C. Lilly and the usage of sensory deprivation tanks. One might hallucinate, but insanity? Naw.

Most people sleep for 8 hours or more every day where they dont see, hear or do anything, no one has gone insane from that.

There are many people who meditate deeply where they dont see, hear or do anything for much longer than 8 hours and they come out better than before.

There are also people who were in a deep coma where they didnt see, hear or do anything for months or even years, when they did wake up they would have bad memory but certainly sane.

I couldnn't see insanity coming within 8 hours. But, humans are social creatures. We really do need one another. Throw someone in solitary confinement for a few months and yeah, I could definitely see some insanity coming from that.

Hmm, I'm not sure. The sleeping thing, we're dreaming though, aren't we? And dreams are just as vivid as reality. So even though we might not be awake, I believe our brains are still being stimulated through sound and sights, etc.

Meditation, I'm not sure about either. Where are they meditating that they don't hear anything? I mean, even if it's in a forest somewhere, there's gotta be birds or something.

Coma is interesting, but I'm not actually sure the effects of a coma. Can you dream during a coma, or no?

Ah, who knows? It's pretty fascinating stuff, I think.

you go to sleep 8 hours a night dont see hear or do anything and wake up perfectly sane. sounds like a myth to me
Elite
ive heard sensory deprivation does cause insanity or at the very least mental illness
but it has to last much longer than 8 hours more like a couple of hundred hours
a couple of sensory deprived insanity is recorded during astronaut training during which they locked astronauts in training in sensory deprivision pods until they couldnt take it any more they did all this to simulate the conditions of space
a very few number went completely insane so they stopped this form of testing also the rest reported multiple hullucinations

Neither do I think the 8 hour theory is truth, however...do you count dreaming as seeing, hearing, or doing at all? I understand it is not "reality" but you experience it in very similar ways. It's an interesting thing to think about, I guess, even if no one happens to agree.

I believe that!

Why do you hallucinate in a sensory dep. tank?

Probably because it totally screws with your head, not being able to see, hear, etc for long periods of time.

Actually, is anyone familiar with the comedian Joe Rogan? I believe I watched a youtube video of his once where he talked about the hours he spends in sensory deprivation type tanks. I believe he has one in his basement or something. He's into hallucinating and experiencing stuff like that though, I guess. Personally, I'm fine with my senses. I like to use them.

That's just what I was going to say. I typically sleep for 10 or more hours each day, and last time I checked I was fine-ish.

But I was also going to mention that I have heard stories of sailors marooned on islands for months at a time with no human contact that read from the Bible in order to retain the ability of speech and to hear the sound of a human voice. Although I can't remember if this tale is from a book or an actual account. My memory is damnable sometimes.

I wouldnt be surprised. I mentioned earlier that human beings are social creatures. And without each other, we will go crazy. So yeah, I could totally see someone marooned somewhere start to go nuts after a long period of no human contact. Think of solitary confinement in prisons. Its a similar principle. The punishment is the lack of social interaction, really.
ZombieHunter117
I should have explained this better its not to do with sleep its like if someone didnt hear anything while they were awake same with see or say anything i dont know what this does to make you crazy and i dont care about mimes. Another addon is that I think it could make someone go insane because they do these things all there lives and when this is restricted they feel a sense of fear and turn to things that they dont regular do after the 8 hours like laughing constantly, racing thougts, elavated mood, ect.

If you are not around sound too long the your mind will start making up sounds to trick your ears.
I don't know the exact scientific details but it's pretty interesting. One story was of this college graduate who was taking a well deserved vacation sailing on a schooner around the Caribbean. Because it was so quiet on the open ocean he started hearing heavy metal riffs. It really drove him crazy because he HATED METAL!!!

Damn, I would've love that if I was him.

I think this would totally depend on the person as well. A truly social person would have more mental issues when deprived of sound, interaction, etc.

That's because the colour yellow is an irritant. (An example would be one of the bathroom's at my mother's. People stayed in there for the shortest amount of time possible because of the colour. The room was painted bright yellow.)

I disagree. Your body is just in another state of consciousness. Audio perception is still a function in sleep.
hauntedbyprince101
it would depend on the environment one was placed in.

Yeah, the difference is that while your mind is still active while sleeping/dreaming, it's usually not FULLY conscious.

Sensory deprivation while being fully conscious for 8 hours might cause you to feel like you're going crazy, though.
Crai
i doubt it, but i'm sure there are people taht would test it hahaha
fadinginnocence
i dont think it will actually make you go insane but depriving poeple of all senses does cause hallucinations and im sure if done for long enough it could cause some one to have a psychotic break. some psychologists did this as an experiment, you are placed in a room with noseplugs, earplags ad blindfolded and they placed tubey things on thier arms and legs so that they cannot touch themselfs or anything else and after awhile the start to hallucinate.
